Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Khazā’in Allah (خَزَائِنُ اللَّهِ): The treasuries of Allah, meaning the stores of provision, sustenance, and all that is hidden in the heavens and the earth.
- Al-Ghayb (الْغَيْب): The unseen, that which is hidden from human perception and knowledge, known only to Allah.
- Malak (مَلَك): An angel, a celestial being created from light, free from human limitations.
- Al-A‘mā (الْأَعْمَى): The blind one, referring here to the disbeliever whose heart is blind to the truth.
- Al-Baṣīr (الْبَصِيرُ): The seeing one, referring here to the believer whose heart sees and embraces the truth.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet, say clearly to those who demand miracles and challenge your message: “I do not claim to possess the treasuries of Allah, nor do I have power to distribute provision or bring about whatever I wish. I do not claim knowledge of the unseen, for that belongs solely to Allah, and I only know what He reveals to me through revelation. Nor do I claim to be an angel, free from human nature and its needs. I am merely a human messenger, and my only task is to follow what is revealed to me from my Lord and to convey it to you faithfully.”
Then the Prophet is instructed to pose a profound question to them: “Is the blind person equal to the one who sees?” The blind here is the disbeliever whose heart is sealed, unable to perceive the signs of Allah, while the seeing is the believer whose heart is open, recognizing the truth and submitting to it. Clearly, they are not equal — just as physical blindness and sight are not the same, spiritual blindness and insight are utterly different. So why do you not reflect deeply on the signs of Allah around you — the heavens, the earth, your own creation — so that you may see the truth with your hearts and believe?
Da‘wah Reflection:
This verse teaches us a beautiful lesson in humility and sincerity. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the greatest of creation, yet he did not claim any power beyond what Allah gave him. He was a servant and a messenger, and his only miracle was the revelation he received. This is a call for us to reflect: do we follow the truth because we see it clearly, or do we remain blind to it out of arrogance and habit? Allah invites us to use our intellect and hearts to ponder His signs, for the one who sees the truth and follows it is not like the one who turns away. Let us open our eyes to the light of faith, for the Qur’an is a mercy and a guide for those who reflect.
