Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • سَبِّحْ (Sabbih): Glorify, exalt, and declare the absolute perfection of Allah, free from any flaw, deficiency, or imperfection.
  • بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ (Bi-smi Rabbika): By the name of your Lord — meaning, in His name and through His attributes.
  • الْعَظِيمِ (Al-ʿAẓīm): The Magnificent, the Supreme, the One whose greatness knows no bounds.

Explanation of the Verse:

This concluding verse of Surah Al-Haqqah serves as a divine command directed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and, by extension, to all believers: "So glorify the name of your Lord, the Magnificent."

After the surah has presented the dramatic scenes of the Day of Resurrection, the fate of the deniers, and the triumph of the truthful, Allah concludes with a call to worship and remembrance. The command to "glorify" means to declare Allah’s perfection and to distance Him from every imperfection, weakness, or attribute that does not befit His majesty. It is a call to purify your heart and tongue by acknowledging that Allah alone is worthy of all praise, and that His name encompasses all that is beautiful and sublime.

The phrase "by the name of your Lord" emphasizes that this glorification is not merely a ritual utterance but a profound act of devotion that connects the servant to his Creator. The attribute "Al-ʿAẓīm" (the Magnificent) reminds us that His greatness is beyond human comprehension — His power, wisdom, and mercy are infinite, and His dominion over all creation is absolute.

This verse also carries a beautiful message of hope and reassurance. When you face the trials of life, when you witness the arrogance of those who deny the truth, and when you ponder the mysteries of existence, the remedy is to turn to Allah in glorification. By doing so, you align your heart with the reality that Allah is in control, that His justice will prevail, and that His promise is true.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, this verse is an invitation to make glorification of Allah a constant companion in your daily life. When you wake in the morning and when you retire at night, when you are joyful and when you are sorrowful, remember to say: "Subḥāna Rabbiyal-ʿAẓīm" (Glory be to my Lord, the Magnificent). This simple phrase carries immense weight — it purifies your soul, strengthens your faith, and draws you closer to your Creator.

Let this verse be a reminder that no matter how great the challenges you face, Allah is greater. His name is magnificent, His mercy is vast, and His love for those who remember Him is boundless. So glorify Him with sincerity, and you will find peace in this life and success in the next. Indeed, the Quran is a truth that leaves no room for doubt, and the glorification of Allah is the key to eternal happiness.
