Tafsir (Interpretation):
O children of Adam, Allah, the Most Merciful, addresses all of humanity with a fatherly warning: Do not let Satan deceive you and lead you astray, just as he deceived your first parents, Adam and Eve (peace be upon them). He cunningly tempted them to eat from the forbidden tree, causing them to be expelled from the bliss of Paradise. His method was to strip them of their garments—the covering Allah had provided for them—so that their private parts became exposed, and they felt shame and regret. This was his ultimate trick: to humiliate them and sever their closeness to their Lord.
Satan does not appear to you in a visible form; rather, he and his entire tribe—his offspring and followers from among the jinn—see you from a place where you cannot see them. This is a profound reality: they observe your weaknesses, your moments of heedlessness, and your desires, and they exploit them to whisper evil into your hearts. Therefore, be ever vigilant and seek refuge in Allah from their whispers, for they are relentless in their enmity toward you.
Allah then reveals a profound truth: He has made the devils allies and companions for those who do not believe in Him—those who reject His oneness, deny His messengers, and refuse to follow His guidance. Such people willingly open the doors of their hearts to Satan, and he leads them deeper into darkness and misguidance. As for the believers who place their trust in Allah and strive to obey Him, Satan has no authority over them; their faith is a fortress that shields them from his plots.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
This verse is a loving reminder from your Creator, who knows your nature and your struggles. He warns you because He cares for you and desires your success in this life and the Hereafter. Satan’s enmity is ancient—it began with your father Adam and continues with every generation. But Allah has not left you defenseless; He has given you the Qur’an, the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace be upon him), and the gift of reason to recognize Satan’s tricks. Whenever you feel tempted to disobey Allah, remember that Satan is watching you, waiting for you to stumble. But you can defeat him by remembering Allah, seeking His protection, and surrounding yourself with righteous company. Let this verse inspire you to strengthen your faith, for the one who clings to Allah will never be overcome by the whispers of the accursed enemy. And know that Paradise—the eternal home of bliss—is the reward for those who resist Satan’s call and obey their Lord.
