Word Meanings:

  • Libaas (لِبَاسًا): Clothing or garment.
  • Yuwāri (يُوَارِي): Covers, conceals, or hides.
  • Saw’āt (سَوْآتِكُمْ): Private parts or areas of shame that must be covered.
  • Rīshan (وَرِيشًا): Fine clothing for adornment and beauty, like feathers that beautify a bird.
  • Libaas at-Taqwā (وَلِبَاسُ التَّقْوَىٰ): The garment of God-consciousness — piety, righteousness, and the fear of Allah that leads one to obey His commands and avoid His prohibitions.

Explanation of the Verse:

O children of Adam! Allah, in His infinite mercy and grace, has bestowed upon you not one, but two kinds of garments. The first is a physical garment that covers your private parts — a necessity for your dignity and modesty. The second is a garment of adornment and beauty — fine clothing that makes you presentable and graceful in your interactions with others, just as feathers beautify a bird. Both of these are blessings from your Lord, provided for your comfort and well-being in this worldly life.

Yet, there is a third garment — one that is far superior and more precious than any fabric you could ever wear: the garment of Taqwā (God-consciousness). This is the inner covering of the heart and soul, which shields you from sin, protects your character, and elevates your rank in the sight of Allah. It is the piety that compels you to fulfill His commands and abstain from what He has forbidden. While physical clothing covers the body, the garment of Taqwā covers the soul — and it is this inner covering that truly dignifies a person in this life and the Hereafter.

Allah says that this garment of Taqwā is better — better than any silk, better than any fine wool, better than all the treasures of this world combined. For while physical clothing will one day wear out and decay, the garment of righteousness remains with the believer forever, shining brightly on the Day of Judgment.

This entire provision — the clothing that covers you, the adornment that beautifies you, and the guidance that purifies you — is among the great signs of Allah’s power, wisdom, and boundless mercy toward His creation. These blessings are not random; they are deliberate acts of divine kindness meant to awaken your hearts. Allah mentions them so that you may remember — remember His favors, reflect upon His greatness, and respond with gratitude and obedience.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, pause and ponder: How often do you thank Allah for the simple garment you wear each day? How often do you reflect that the very clothes on your back are a mercy from your Lord? And more importantly — have you clothed yourself with the garment of Taqwā? Have you adorned your heart with faith, your tongue with truth, and your actions with sincerity?

The most beautiful person is not the one dressed in the finest robes, but the one whose heart is dressed in piety. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught us that Allah looks not at your outward appearance or wealth, but at your hearts and your deeds. So let this verse be a reminder: beautify your exterior, yes — but never neglect the interior. For the garment of Taqwā is the garment that will never fade, never tear, and never fail you — and it is the key to eternal success in the presence of your Lord.

Let these signs awaken you from heedlessness. Remember Allah’s favors upon you, and let that remembrance transform into gratitude, and let that gratitude draw you closer to Him. For He who clothed you in this world is the One who promises to clothe the people of Taqwā in the finest garments of Paradise — garments of silk and honor that will never wear out, in a life that will never end.

📜 Verse 24-28 — Al-A'raf

[Allah] said, "Descend, being to one another enemies. And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time."
He said, "Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and from it you will be brought forth."
O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness - that is best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they will remember.
O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe.
And when they commit an immorality, they say, "We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has ordered us to do it." Say, "Indeed, Allah does not order immorality. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know?"
