Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Salatihim (صَلَاتِهِمْ): Their prayers — the five obligatory daily prayers.
- Yuhafizun (يُحَافِظُونَ): They guard, preserve, and consistently maintain — meaning they perform them diligently at their appointed times, with all their conditions, pillars, and obligations, without negligence or delay.
Tafsir (Explanation):
After describing the believers' chastity and their restraint from unlawful desires, Allah now mentions another hallmark of their character: their steadfast preservation of the prayer. This means they do not merely pray occasionally or carelessly — rather, they guard their prayers by performing them on time, with proper purification (wudu), with tranquility and humility in bowing and prostration, and by fulfilling all their essential rites and obligations. Nothing distracts them from this sacred duty — neither business, nor family, nor worldly concerns. They are consistent and unwavering in this practice, not like those who pray only when it is convenient or who rush through it without presence of heart.
This verse comes as a continuation of the qualities of the successful believers — those who will be honored in the Gardens of Delight. Their prayer is not a burden but a joy, a connection to their Lord that they protect jealously, just as one protects a precious treasure.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear brother and sister in Islam — look at how Allah elevates the status of those who guard their prayers! The prayer is the pillar of the religion, the first thing a servant will be asked about on the Day of Judgment. When you preserve your prayers, you are not just fulfilling a ritual — you are building a fortress around your faith. The one who prays consistently finds light in their heart, discipline in their life, and protection from sin. Let us ask ourselves: Are we among those who truly guard our prayers? Do we rush to the mosque when the adhan is called, or do we delay and procrastinate? Do we pray with presence of heart, or are our minds wandering elsewhere? Let this verse be a beautiful reminder that the path to Paradise is paved with consistent, sincere prayer. Make it your daily companion, and you will find peace in this life and success in the next. May Allah make us among those who truly preserve their prayers, for they are the ones who will be honored in the highest gardens of Paradise.
