Surah Al-Muddaththir — Verse 36

• Nadheeran (نَذِيرًا): A warner, one who gives a warning of impending danger or punishment to alert people so they may take heed and protect themselves.
• Al-Bashar (لِلْبَشَرِ): All of humankind, every human being regardless of race, time, or place.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse comes as a continuation of a powerful oath in which Allah Almighty swears by the moon, by the night as it departs, and by the dawn as it brightens — all to affirm a tremendous truth: that the Hellfire is indeed one of the greatest calamities, a reality of immense magnitude. And this Hellfire has been made a warning for all of humanity — not for a single nation, not for one generation, but for every human being who walks the earth until the end of time.

The purpose of this warning is not to frighten for the sake of frightening, but to awaken hearts and guide souls. It is a mercy from Allah that He has informed us of what lies ahead so that we may choose the path of safety. The warning is directed to every person — whether they are among those who wish to draw near to their Lord by performing acts of obedience and righteousness, or among those who lag behind by committing sins and turning away from the truth. Both are addressed, both are warned, and both are given the choice.

This verse reminds us that the message of Islam is universal. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent as a warner to all of mankind, and this warning remains alive in the Qur'an today. Every soul that reads or hears this verse is being personally addressed by the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
