Word Meanings:

  • لِلطَّاغِينَ (liṭ-ṭāghīn): Those who transgress beyond bounds, the arrogant disbelievers who rebel against Allah’s commands.
  • مَآبًا (ma’āban): A place of return, a final refuge or abode.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah describes Hellfire as a final destination and permanent refuge for the transgressors—those who exceeded all limits in their disbelief, arrogance, and disobedience to their Lord. The word *ma’āban* conveys that Hell is not merely a temporary stop but the ultimate and inescapable return for those who chose rebellion over guidance in this worldly life.

This return is a direct consequence of their own choices: they rejected the truth when it came to them, oppressed others, and followed their desires without restraint. Therefore, Hell becomes their fitting abode—a place prepared for them, where they will remain for successive ages without end. In that abode, they will find no relief from the scorching heat, no drink to quench their thirst, except boiling water and the foul pus of the damned—a recompense that perfectly matches the deeds they committed in the world.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound truth: every soul will return to what it has prepared. The transgressors are not victims of fate; they are architects of their own ruin. Yet, the door of mercy remains open in this life. Allah, in His infinite compassion, has sent messengers, revealed scriptures, and given countless chances for repentance. Do not let arrogance or stubbornness lead you to the same end. Turn back to your Lord today, submit to His guidance, and you will find instead a refuge of eternal bliss—gardens beneath which rivers flow, where peace and joy never end. The choice is yours, and the time is now.

Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait
