Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Mustad'afeen (مُسْتَضْعَفُونَ): Those who are oppressed, weakened, and deemed powerless by others.
  • Yatakhattafakum (يَتَخَطَّفَكُمُ): To snatch you away swiftly and seize you suddenly.
  • Awaakum (آوَاكُمْ): Gave you shelter and a safe haven.
  • Ayyadakum (أَيَّدَكُم): Strengthened and reinforced you.
  • Tayyibat (الطَّيِّبَات): Good, pure, and lawful provisions.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O believers, remember and reflect upon the immense favors Allah bestowed upon you during your most vulnerable moments. Recall when you were few in number, weak and oppressed in the land of Makkah, living under the constant threat of being snatched away by your enemies—the Quraysh and other tribes who sought to crush you and eradicate your faith. You were a small, frightened community, with no power, no resources, and no protector among the people.

Then, in His infinite mercy and wisdom, Allah changed your condition completely. He provided you with a safe refuge—the city of Madinah—where you could live in peace and practice your religion freely. He strengthened you with His divine support, granting you victory over your enemies through the help of the Ansar (the supporters in Madinah) and His angels on the day of Badr, a day that became a turning point in the history of Islam. He also provided you with pure and lawful sustenance, including the spoils of war, which were made lawful for you as a special blessing that had not been permitted to any community before you.

All of this was done so that you might be grateful. Gratitude is not merely a word on the tongue; it is a state of the heart that acknowledges Allah's favors, a commitment of the limbs to obey Him, and a constant remembrance of His kindness. When you are grateful, Allah increases His blessings upon you. But if you are ungrateful and forget His favors, you risk losing them and facing His punishment.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse is a timeless reminder for every believer, in every era, that Allah never abandons His sincere servants. The story of the early Muslims is a testament to the fact that hardship is often a prelude to ease, and weakness is a stage before strength. When you find yourself in difficult circumstances—feeling small, oppressed, or afraid—remember that Allah is the One who turns the tables. He can take you from the depths of fear to the heights of security, from poverty to abundance, from humiliation to honor, all in the blink of an eye.

So, let this verse fill your heart with hope and trust in Allah. Never despair of His mercy, no matter how overwhelming your trials may seem. The same Allah who sheltered the early Muslims in Madinah, strengthened them at Badr, and provided for them from the purest of provisions is alive today, hearing your prayers and seeing your struggles. Call upon Him, rely on Him, and thank Him for every blessing you have—even the ones you often overlook. For gratitude is the key that unlocks the doors of more blessings, and it is the quality that distinguishes the true believer from the heedless.

Let this beautiful verse inspire you to be among those who remember Allah's favors, who are grateful in times of ease, and who remain patient and hopeful in times of hardship. Indeed, Allah's promise is true, and His help is near for those who believe and are grateful.

📜 Verse 24-28 — Al-Anfal

O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allah intervenes between a man and his heart and that to Him you will be gathered.
And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allah is severe in penalty.
And remember when you were few and oppressed in the land, fearing that people might abduct you, but He sheltered you, supported you with His victory, and provided you with good things - that you might be grateful.
O you who have believed, do not betray Allah and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence].
And know that your properties and your children are but a trial and that Allah has with Him a great reward.
