📖 English Meaning
O you who have believed, do not betray Allah and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence].
📜

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Khianah (خيانة): Betrayal, breach of trust, or treachery — the act of failing to fulfill a duty or trust placed upon someone.
  • Amanat (أمانات): Trusts or responsibilities — everything Allah has entrusted to a believer, including religious obligations, worldly duties, and the rights of others.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O you who have truly believed in Allah and followed His Messenger! This noble address calls upon the believers with the most beloved of titles — "those who have faith" — to awaken their consciousness and remind them of their sacred covenant.

Do not betray Allah and His Messenger. This means do not abandon what Allah has made obligatory upon you, nor commit what He has forbidden. Every command you neglect and every prohibition you violate is a form of betrayal against your Creator, who has honored you with faith and guided you to the straight path. Likewise, do not betray the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) by disregarding his Sunnah, his teachings, or the divine revelation he conveyed to you.

And do not betray your trusts — whether these are the religious duties Allah has placed upon you, such as prayer, fasting, and zakat, or the worldly trusts people have placed in your care, such as wealth, secrets, positions, or responsibilities. Every amanah you have been given — from the greatest to the smallest — is a test from Allah, and fulfilling it is a means of drawing closer to Him.

All of this is while you know — you are fully aware that betrayal is ugly, forbidden, and deserving of punishment. You know that Allah sees all that you do, and that He has promised severe consequences for those who betray His trust. Your knowledge makes your sin even greater, for ignorance may excuse, but deliberate betrayal with full awareness is a grave transgression.

A Call to the Heart:

Dear believer, reflect on the weight of this verse! Allah has honored you with the title of faith, and with that honor comes immense responsibility. When you remain faithful to Allah's commands, you protect your own soul. When you fulfill the trusts placed upon you, you build a society of mutual confidence and love. The one who is faithful to Allah is faithful to people, and the one who betrays Allah will eventually betray everyone around him.

Be among those who are known for honesty and trustworthiness, for these are the qualities of the prophets and the righteous. Let your faith be a living reality that manifests in every action, every word, and every responsibility you carry. Remember that on the Day of Judgment, every trust will be returned to its rightful owner, and you will stand before Allah to account for how you fulfilled what He entrusted to you.

So hold firm to this noble command, and let it be a light that guides your path. For the one who is faithful in this world will find, in the Hereafter, the ultimate reward: the pleasure of Allah and the gardens of eternal bliss.

📜 Verse 25-29 — Al-Anfal

And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allah is severe in penalty.
And remember when you were few and oppressed in the land, fearing that people might abduct you, but He sheltered you, supported you with His victory, and provided you with good things - that you might be grateful.
O you who have believed, do not betray Allah and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence].
And know that your properties and your children are but a trial and that Allah has with Him a great reward.
O you who have believed, if you fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you. And Allah is the possessor of great bounty.
