Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-Fitnah: Here it means seeking to cause discord, division, and sedition among the believers, and attempting to turn people away from the faith.
  • Qallabū laka al-umūr: They turned matters over and over, devising schemes and plots against you (O Prophet), trying every trick to undermine your mission.
  • Al-Haqq: The truth, meaning the victory and triumph of Islam.
  • Amr Allah: The command of Allah, meaning His religion and His decree of support for His Messenger.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse unveils the deep-rooted malice of the hypocrites, exposing their true nature long before the expedition of Tabuk. They had already sought to sow discord among the believers, attempting to split their ranks and weaken their resolve. They did not merely stop at one attempt—they persistently turned matters over and over, devising one scheme after another, as they had done on the day of Uhud and the day of the Trench (Al-Ahzab). Their goal was to extinguish the light of truth and to shake your determination, O Prophet, in conveying the message of Allah.

Yet, despite all their cunning and relentless plotting, the decree of Allah prevailed. The truth arrived—victory came from Allah, His religion was made manifest, and His word rose supreme—while they seethed with resentment and hatred. They despised every moment of this triumph, for their hearts were set on the victory of falsehood over truth. But Allah's promise never fails, and His help always comes to those who remain steadfast.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder the profound lesson in this verse: the schemes of the enemies of truth, no matter how elaborate or persistent, are but dust in the wind before the will of Allah. The hypocrites of old exhausted their efforts in trying to uproot the message of Islam, yet the religion of Allah shone brighter than ever. This is a timeless reminder that when you stand for truth and righteousness, Allah's support is guaranteed. Do not fear the plots of those who oppose the path of guidance—their plans will crumble, and the light of Allah will always overcome the darkness of falsehood. Let this strengthen your faith and fill your heart with hope, for the victory of Allah is near, even when the world seems against you. Embrace the truth with sincerity, and trust that Allah's promise is true—He will never abandon those who strive in His cause.

📜 Verse 46-50 — At-Tawbah

And if they had intended to go forth, they would have prepared for it [some] preparation. But Allah disliked their being sent, so He kept them back, and they were told, "Remain [behind] with those who remain."
Had they gone forth with you, they would not have increased you except in confusion, and they would have been active among you, seeking [to cause] you fitnah. And among you are avid listeners to them. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers.
They had already desired dissension before and had upset matters for you until the truth came and the ordinance of Allah appeared, while they were averse.
And among them is he who says, "Permit me [to remain at home] and do not put me to trial." Unquestionably, into trial they have fallen. And indeed, Hell will encompass the disbelievers.
If good befalls you, it distresses them; but if disaster strikes you, they say, "We took our matter [in hand] before," and turn away while they are rejoicing.
