Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Bini'mati Rabbika (بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ): By the favor/blessing of your Lord — referring to all the blessings Allah has bestowed, including prophethood, guidance, and worldly provisions.
  • Fahaddith (فَحَدِّثْ): Then speak about it / proclaim it / mention it openly.

Explanation of the Verse:

This final verse of Surah Ad-Duha completes a beautiful chain of divine instructions to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and by extension, to every believer. After commanding kindness to orphans and not repelling those who ask for help, Allah now directs His Messenger to the highest form of gratitude: openly speaking about the blessings of His Lord.

The command "proclaim the favor of your Lord" means to acknowledge and mention the blessings Allah has given you — not with pride or arrogance, but with humility and gratitude. This includes the greatest blessing of all: prophethood and divine guidance. The Prophet was to share this blessing with humanity, teaching them the Quran and the way of righteousness.

This instruction also carries a profound practical meaning: when you receive a blessing, speak about it. If you have been given knowledge, share it. If you have been given wealth, use it to help others and speak of Allah's generosity. If you have been guided to Islam, invite others to this same light. Expressing gratitude through words and actions multiplies the blessing and inspires others to seek the same goodness.

The verse beautifully teaches us that gratitude is not merely a private feeling in the heart — it is a public declaration. When we openly acknowledge Allah's favors upon us, we fulfill two purposes: we thank the Giver, and we encourage others to recognize His boundless mercy. This is why the scholars say that mentioning blessings is a form of shukr (gratitude), while remaining silent about them can be a form of ingratitude.

A Call to Action for Every Believer:

Dear reader, reflect on the countless blessings in your life — your faith, your health, your family, your provision. Every breath you take is a gift from your Lord. Let this verse inspire you to become a person who constantly acknowledges Allah's favors. Speak about His goodness with your tongue, show it through your actions, and let your life be a living testimony of His grace. When you do so, you not only secure His continued blessings but also become a beacon of light guiding others toward the beauty of Islam. This is the path of the grateful — and Allah promises increase for those who give thanks.
