Word Meanings:

  • أَوْحَيْنَا (awhayna): We revealed/sent divine inspiration.
  • أَنذِرِ (andhir): Warn, caution against punishment.
  • بَشِّرْ (bashshir): Give glad tidings, bring good news.
  • قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ (qadama sidq): A true standing, an honorable rank, or a good deed sent forth in advance.
  • سَاحِرٌ مُّبِينٌ (sāhirun mubīn): A clear, evident sorcerer or magician.

Explanation of the Verse:

Is it such an astonishing matter for people that We sent divine revelation to a man from among themselves—a human being like them, not an angel—commanding him to warn humanity of the consequences of their actions and to bring glad tidings to those who believe? The glad tidings are that they hold a true and honorable standing with their Lord, a reward for the righteous deeds they have sent ahead of them. Yet, when this man, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), came with the revelation and recited it to them, the disbelievers, in their arrogance and denial, said: "Indeed, this man is a clear sorcerer, and what he brings is nothing but evident magic."

The verse addresses the disbelief and astonishment of the people of Makkah when prophethood was granted to a human being from among them. They found it strange that Allah would choose a man, not an angel, to deliver His message. But this is not strange at all—Allah, in His infinite wisdom, has always sent messengers from among their own people, so that they can understand, relate to, and learn from them. The warning here is a mercy: to save people from destruction, and the glad tidings are a promise of eternal success for the believers. The disbelievers, however, rejected this mercy and labeled the Prophet as a sorcerer, a claim that is clearly false and baseless.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on the beauty of this divine message. Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, did not leave us without guidance. He sent a man from among us—someone who ate, drank, walked in the markets, and lived among the people—to be a living example of how to live a life pleasing to Allah. This is not a matter for astonishment; it is a matter for gratitude. The Prophet (peace be upon him) came to warn us of the fire and to give us the most wonderful news: that through faith and righteous deeds, we can attain a high rank with our Lord. What greater honor could there be than to have a "true standing" with Allah? This is a promise that should fill every believer's heart with hope and determination. Do not let the words of the disbelievers, then or now, turn you away from this truth. Their claim of sorcery is but a weak excuse to avoid the responsibility of faith. Open your heart to this message, and you will find peace, purpose, and a path to eternal success.

📜 Verse 1-4 — Yunus

Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the wise Book
Have the people been amazed that We revealed [revelation] to a man from among them, [saying], "Warn mankind and give good tidings to those who believe that they will have a [firm] precedence of honor with their Lord"? [But] the disbelievers say, "Indeed, this is an obvious magician."
Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne, arranging the matter [of His creation]. There is no intercessor except after His permission. That is Allah, your Lord, so worship Him. Then will you not remember?
To Him is your return all together. [It is] the promise of Allah [which is] truth. Indeed, He begins the [process of] creation and then repeats it that He may reward those who have believed and done righteous deeds, in justice. But those who disbelieved will have a drink of scalding water and a painful punishment for what they used to deny.
