Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Bu'thira (بُعْثِرَ): To be overturned, scattered, or dug up; meaning that the earth will be turned over and its contents brought out.
  • Ma fi al-qubur (مَا فِي الْقُبُور): What is in the graves, i.e., the dead bodies of humans.

Explanation of the Verse:

Does this ungrateful, arrogant human being not know what awaits him when the Day of Resurrection comes? On that Day, Allah will command the earth to be overturned, and all the dead buried within it will be brought forth from their graves—alive once again—to be held accountable for every deed they did in this worldly life. This is a powerful reminder that the life of this world is not the end; rather, it is merely a fleeting stage before the eternal life to come. The one who is deceived by wealth, power, and worldly pleasures should pause and reflect: will he not realize that the very ground he walks on will one day surrender its secrets, and he will stand before his Lord, alone, with nothing but his deeds?

This verse awakens the heart from its heedlessness. It calls upon every soul to think deeply about the inevitable end—the moment when the graves will be emptied and humanity will be resurrected for judgment. The One who created man from nothing is fully capable of bringing him back to life. Therefore, the wise person is the one who prepares for that Day before it arrives, while there is still time for repentance and good deeds. Let this verse be a gentle yet firm reminder that no matter how long we may live or how much we may accumulate, the graves will not remain sealed forever, and the meeting with Allah is certain. So, let us hasten to please our Lord, for that Day will be the ultimate reality—a day of justice, mercy, and eternal reward for the believers.

And indeed he is, in love of wealth, intense.
9۞ أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِي الْقُبُورِ

And that within the breasts is obtained,
11إِنَّ رَبَّهُم بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّخَبِيرٌ
Indeed, their Lord with them, that Day, is [fully] Acquainted.
