Word Meanings:

  • "Istaghfirū": Seek forgiveness from Allah for past sins.
  • "Tūbū ilayh": Turn back to Him in sincere repentance, abandoning disobedience and returning to obedience.
  • "Midrāran": Continuous, abundant rain falling one after another.
  • "Lā tawallaw mujrimin": Do not turn away from the call to truth while persisting in sin and disbelief.

Explanation of the Verse:

Prophet Hūd (peace be upon him) addressed his people with profound compassion and wisdom, calling them to the very essence of salvation. He said: "O my people, seek forgiveness from your Lord for the sins you have committed, then turn to Him in sincere repentance—leaving aside your shirk (associating partners with Allah) and your worship of idols."

This is not merely a call to utter words; it is a call to transform one's heart and actions. When a servant combines seeking forgiveness with genuine repentance, Allah opens the doors of His mercy. The Prophet promised them that if they did so, Allah would send down rain in abundance upon them—rain that would revive their lands, fill their wells, and bring forth their crops. This was a direct answer to the drought and famine they were suffering from, as their skies had withheld their blessings due to their disobedience.

Moreover, Allah would increase them in strength upon strength—strength in their bodies, their wealth, their children, and their honor. This is a beautiful promise: that repentance does not diminish a person; rather, it multiplies their blessings and elevates their status. The one who turns to Allah finds that Allah turns to them with even greater generosity.

Then came the warning, wrapped in tenderness: "And do not turn away as criminals." Do not reject this call while persisting in your wrongdoing, for that would only seal your fate and bring upon you the punishment that befell those before you.

This verse carries a timeless lesson for every believer: no matter how far we have strayed, the door of repentance is always open. The remedy for hardship—whether drought, poverty, or weakness—is not to run away from Allah, but to run back to Him. Seek His forgiveness, mend your relationship with Him, and watch how He transforms your situation. The One who controls the clouds and the rain, the One who grants strength and honor, is waiting for His servant to take that first step back to Him. What a beautiful trade: a few moments of sincere repentance in exchange for the blessings of this world and the Hereafter.

📜 Verse 50-54 — Hud

And to 'Aad [We sent] their brother Hud. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. You are not but inventors [of falsehood].
O my people, I do not ask you for it any reward. My reward is only from the one who created me. Then will you not reason?
And O my people, ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers and increase you in strength [added] to your strength. And do not turn away, [being] criminals."
They said, "O Hud, you have not brought us clear evidence, and we are not ones to leave our gods on your say-so. Nor are we believers in you.
We only say that some of our gods have possessed you with evil." He said, "Indeed, I call Allah to witness, and witness [yourselves] that I am free from whatever you associate with Allah
