Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- A'udhu (أَعُوذُ): I seek refuge and protection, clinging to someone who can defend and shield me from harm.
- Rabb (رَبّ): The Lord, Master, and Sustainer—the One who owns, governs, and cares for all affairs of His creation.
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this opening verse of Surah An-Nas, Allah commands His Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) to say: "I seek refuge and protection with the Lord of mankind." This is a declaration of complete reliance on Allah alone, acknowledging that He is the sole possessor of all human affairs—their creation, their sustenance, their life, and their death. He is the Master who manages everything about them, and He alone has the power to grant security and safety.
The verse emphasizes that Allah is not just the Lord of some people but of *all* people—every human being, regardless of their status, belief, or background. This universality reminds us that no matter who we are or what we face, our ultimate refuge lies with the One who created us and knows us better than we know ourselves.
This command to seek refuge is a profound lesson in humility and trust. It teaches us that human strength, intelligence, or resources are never enough to protect us from every harm—especially the hidden whispers that target our hearts and minds. By turning to Allah, we acknowledge our weakness and His infinite power, and we open the door to His divine protection.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Beloved reader, imagine having a protector who never sleeps, never tires, and whose power knows no limits. That is your Lord—the Lord of all people. When you say "I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind," you are connecting yourself to the strongest shield that exists. This verse invites you to make Allah your first and last resort in every difficulty, whether visible or invisible. It is a beautiful reminder that you are never alone, and that the Creator of the heavens and the earth is always ready to answer your call for help. So turn to Him with a sincere heart, and you will find peace that transcends all worldly worries.
