Have they not seen that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders? And Allah decides; there is no adjuster of His decision. And He is swift in account.

Word Meanings:

  • نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا — "We reduce it from its outlying sides": meaning We diminish the lands of disbelief by granting victory to the believers, so that the territory of Islam expands while the territory of shirk shrinks.
There is no one to overturn His judgment": no one can reverse, alter, or object to Allah’s decree and command.

Explanation of the Verse:

Allah, the Exalted, addresses the disbelievers with a rhetorical question meant to awaken their hearts and open their eyes: "Have they not seen?" — meaning, do they not observe and reflect upon what is happening around them in the world? Allah is actively bringing His promise to pass: He brings down the lands of disbelief, reducing them from their borders and edges. This is fulfilled through the victories granted to the believers — as Islam spreads and its dominion expands, the strongholds of shirk are conquered and diminished, city after city, region after region. This is not a distant or theoretical matter; it is a visible, unfolding reality that they witness with their own eyes.

The verse then affirms the absolute sovereignty of Allah: He alone judges and decrees, and there is no one who can overturn, delay, or challenge His judgment. Whatever He wills comes to pass, and whatever He does not will never occurs. No power in the heavens or the earth can obstruct His command or reverse His decision.

And He is "swift in reckoning" — His account is not delayed by time or distance. He will bring the disbelievers to justice sooner than they imagine, both in this world through defeat and humiliation, and in the Hereafter through the severe punishment that awaits them. So let them not hasten the punishment out of mockery or denial; for everything that is coming is near, and Allah’s promise is true.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause with me at this profound scene. The One who controls the rise and fall of nations, who expands the borders of truth and diminishes the territories of falsehood — this same Allah is watching over your life, your affairs, and your destiny. If you align yourself with His cause, you will be among those who witness His support and victory. But if you turn away, you risk being among those whose "land" is reduced, whose falsehood is dismantled, and whose reckoning is swift.

This verse is a living sign for every generation: Islam is not a relic of the past — it is a living reality that Allah Himself defends and advances. The doors of His mercy are open, and His judgment is just. So hasten to Him before the reckoning comes, and let the unfolding victories of truth be a reminder that Allah’s promise is certain, His word is supreme, and His help is near for those who believe and act righteously.

📜 Verse 39-43 — Ar-Ra'd

Allah eliminates what He wills or confirms, and with Him is the Mother of the Book.
And whether We show you part of what We promise them or take you in death, upon you is only the [duty of] notification, and upon Us is the account.
Have they not seen that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders? And Allah decides; there is no adjuster of His decision. And He is swift in account.
And those before them had plotted, but to Allah belongs the plan entirely. He knows what every soul earns, and the disbelievers will know for whom is the final home.
And those who have disbelieved say, "You are not a messenger." Say, [O Muhammad], "Sufficient is Allah as Witness between me and you, and [the witness of] whoever has knowledge of the Scripture."
