Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Makara (مكر): To devise a plan or scheme secretly, to plot or conspire against someone in a hidden manner, aiming to harm them without their awareness.
- 'Uqba al-Dār (عقبى الدار): The final outcome or ultimate consequence of the Hereafter — whether it leads to eternal bliss or eternal punishment.
Tafsir (Explanation):
The verse begins by addressing the disbelievers of Makkah who were plotting against the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and scheming to extinguish the light of Islam. Allah reminds them — and all of humanity — that this is not a new phenomenon. The nations before them, such as the people of Nuh, 'Ad, Thamud, and Pharaoh, also devised cunning plots against their prophets. They conspired, schemed, and used every trick in their power to oppose the truth. Yet, what did their schemes achieve? Absolutely nothing against the will of Allah.
Allah then declares a profound truth: "For Allah is all the plotting" — meaning that all true planning, all effective strategy, and all ultimate control over outcomes belong to Him alone. Human plots are feeble and limited; they can only operate within the boundaries Allah permits. When Allah wills something, no scheme can prevent it, and when He wills to thwart a plot, no cunning can save it. The disbelievers' machinations are like a spider's web — fragile and destined to collapse. Allah's plan prevails, and He turns their schemes back upon them, leaving them with nothing but disappointment and regret.
Then Allah reveals His complete knowledge: "He knows what every soul earns." Nothing is hidden from Him — not the secret intentions of the heart, not the whispered conspiracies at night, not the smallest deed of good or evil. Every soul is accumulating a record, and Allah is fully aware of every single entry. This is both a comfort to the believers — who know their efforts are seen and valued — and a warning to the wrongdoers, whose hidden plots are all recorded in the Preserved Tablet.
The verse concludes with a powerful threat and promise: "And the disbelievers will know for whom is the final abode." On the Day of Judgment, when the veils are lifted and the truth becomes crystal clear, the disbelievers will realize — with utter regret and shame — that the blessed final outcome belongs to the believers. The believers who endured hardship, who remained patient, who trusted in Allah's plan, will enter Paradise as the ultimate victors. Meanwhile, the disbelievers who relied on their cunning and plots will find themselves in the Fire, having lost everything.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this verse and let it fill your heart with certainty. How many tyrants and schemers have walked this earth, believing they were in control? Where are they now? Their plots have vanished like dust in the wind, while the truth of Allah stands firm and unshaken.
This verse teaches us a beautiful lesson: Do not fear the plots of people, for Allah is the Best of Planners. When you face opposition, when enemies conspire against you, when the world seems to be closing in — remember that Allah sees everything, knows everything, and His plan is perfect. Your duty is simply to remain steadfast, to trust in Him, and to keep doing good. The victory belongs to the believers, even if it seems delayed.
And what a glorious promise awaits those who believe! The final abode — Paradise — with its rivers, gardens, and the pleasure of Allah — is prepared for them. Let this verse strengthen your faith and fill you with hope. No matter how difficult the journey, the destination is magnificent. And for those who reject the truth, the end is nothing but loss.
So choose today: will you be among those who scheme and lose, or among those who trust in Allah and win? The choice is yours, and the outcome is certain.
