Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Silm (السّلم): Peace, submission, and surrender to Allah; it refers to Islam in its entirety.
- Kaffah (كافة): Completely, wholly, all together—without exception or omission.
- Khatuwaat (خطوات): Footsteps, tracks, or paths—meaning the ways and methods that Satan calls to.
- Mubin (مبين): Clear, evident, and obvious—an enmity that is unmistakable and manifest.
Explanation of the Verse:
O you who have believed in Allah as your Lord, in Muhammad (peace be upon him) as His Messenger, and in Islam as your complete way of life—enter into Islam wholly and completely. Do not take from it some parts and leave others, as the People of the Book did when they believed in part of the Scripture and rejected another part. Rather, embrace all of its commands, submit to all of its rulings, and implement every aspect of its teachings—whether in worship, dealings, character, or daily conduct.
And do not follow the footsteps of Satan—do not walk in his paths, do not respond to his whispers, and do not be deceived by the temptations he beautifies for you. He calls you to disobedience, to partial submission, and to abandoning parts of the faith. Indeed, he is for you a clear enemy whose hostility is evident and whose enmity has been openly declared since the time of your father Adam. So beware of him, and do not let him divert you from the complete submission that your Lord requires of you.
A Call to the Believers:
This verse is a beautiful invitation from your Merciful Lord—a call to embrace Islam in its full beauty and perfection. It reminds you that your faith is not a garment to be worn on some days and discarded on others; it is a complete way of life that brings peace to your heart, justice to your society, and success in this world and the Hereafter. When you enter Islam wholly, you will find tranquility in your soul, harmony in your home, and blessings in your provision. And when you distance yourself from the footsteps of Satan, you protect yourself from the very traps that lead to regret and loss. So respond to your Lord's call with an open heart, for He only wants what is best for you—and He knows what lies in your true benefit.
