Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- آمَنُوا (Amanu): They believed with sincere faith — affirming in their hearts, declaring with their tongues, and acting upon the pillars of faith in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and divine decree.
- الصَّالِحَاتِ (As-Salihat): Righteous deeds — actions that are sound, correct, and in full agreement with the divine law revealed to the prophets, performed sincerely for Allah alone.
- أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ (Ashabu al-Jannah): Companions of Paradise — those who dwell within it, never to depart.
- خَالِدُونَ (Khalidun): They will remain forever — eternal, unending existence without interruption or end.
The Interpretation:
After Allah Almighty mentioned the fate of those who disbelieve in His signs and reject His messengers — that they will be the companions of the Fire, dwelling therein eternally — He now mentions the counterpart to that, establishing His perfect justice and boundless mercy. He declares that those who truly believe in Allah and His messengers with a sincere, unshakable faith, and who follow that faith with righteous deeds that conform to the revealed law — not merely claiming belief with their tongues while their hearts are empty, nor performing deeds that contradict the divine command — these are the ones who will be the companions of Paradise.
They will not merely visit Paradise or pass through it; rather, they will be its permanent residents, abiding therein forever, never to leave and never to die. Their joy will be everlasting, their bliss unending, and their reward will never be cut off. This is the promise of Allah — and His promise is true, for He never breaks His covenant.
This verse carries a profound and heartwarming message for every believer: that faith and righteous action are the twin keys to eternal happiness. Faith without action is like a tree without fruit, and action without faith is like a body without a soul. When the two are combined — sincere belief and righteous deeds — the result is the eternal pleasure of Allah and the everlasting abode of Paradise.
How beautiful is this divine assurance! It gives hope to every struggling believer, every person striving to do good despite their shortcomings, and every soul that fears its own sins. The door of Allah's mercy is wide open, and the path to Paradise is not reserved for the perfect — but for those who believe and strive in the way of righteousness, seeking their Lord's pleasure.
Let this verse be a source of motivation for you, dear reader: every good deed you perform — no matter how small — is a brick in your palace in Paradise. Every sincere step of faith you take brings you closer to an eternity of bliss that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can imagine. So hold fast to your faith, beautify it with righteous actions, and rejoice in the glad tidings that Allah has prepared for His believing servants: eternal life in the gardens of delight, in the company of the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous — and what an excellent company that is!
