- الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا (al-hayat ad-dunya): The present, temporary worldly life with all its desires, pleasures, and distractions.
- بِالْآخِرَةِ (bil-akhirah): The eternal life to come—the Day of Judgment, Paradise, and Hellfire.
- لَا يُخَفَّفُ (la yukhaffaf): It will not be lightened or reduced.
- يُنصَرُونَ (yunsarun): They will be given help, support, or protection from punishment.
The Explanation of the Verse:
These are the people who made a disastrous bargain—they traded away the eternal bliss of the Hereafter for the temporary, fleeting pleasures of this worldly life. They preferred what is perishable over what is everlasting, and they sold their own souls for a short-lived gain that will soon vanish.
Because of this terrible choice, their punishment in the Hereafter will never be lightened for even a moment. There will be no relief, no pause, and no reduction in their suffering. And when they cry out for help, they will find no one to save them—no protector, no intercessor, and no ally who can shield them from the wrath of Allah. They will be left utterly alone in their torment, with no escape and no support.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder for every believer: the life of this world is but a fleeting shadow, while the Hereafter is the true, everlasting abode. How foolish it is to sacrifice an eternal treasure for a temporary illusion! Let this be a call to reflect on our own choices—are we investing in what lasts forever, or are we squandering our precious lives on what will soon fade away? Allah, in His infinite mercy, has warned us clearly so that we may wake up before it is too late. He has opened the door of repentance for us right now, so that we may turn back to Him and secure a place in His eternal Paradise, where no pain, sorrow, or punishment will ever touch us.
