Word Meanings:

  • أُوحِيَ إِلَيْنَا (it has been revealed to us): Allah communicated and inspired this message to His prophets Musa and Harun (peace be upon them).
  • كَذَّبَ (denied/belied): Rejected the truth, the signs of Allah, and the message brought by the messengers.
  • تَوَلَّى (turned away): Deliberately turned one's back, showing arrogance and refusal to accept guidance.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Prophet Musa (Moses) and his brother Harun (Aaron) — peace be upon them — convey a profound and decisive message to Pharaoh. They declare: "Indeed, it has been revealed to us that the punishment [of Allah] is upon whoever denies [the truth] and turns away."

This statement carries a dual purpose: it is both a warning and an invitation. The prophets are not merely threatening Pharaoh; they are clarifying the universal law of Allah — that His punishment, whether in this worldly life or in the Hereafter, is reserved for two types of people:

  1. Those who deny (كَذَّبَ): Those who reject the clear signs of Allah, the miracles brought by the messengers, and the truth of monotheism. They hear the message but refuse to accept it, often out of pride, arrogance, or blind following of their desires.
  2. Those who turn away (تَوَلَّى): Those who, even after understanding the truth, deliberately turn their backs on it. They do not engage with the message, they do not reflect upon it, and they walk away from guidance with indifference or hostility.

The verse emphasizes that the punishment is not for those who are ignorant or who have not yet received the message — rather, it is specifically for those who, after the truth has been made clear to them, choose to reject it or ignore it. This is a manifestation of Allah's perfect justice: He does not punish anyone without first sending guidance and making the path clear.

Furthermore, this verse carries a beautiful reassurance for the believers. When Musa and Harun stood before the tyrant Pharaoh, they did not fear his power or his armies. Their confidence came from their certainty in Allah's promise — that the ultimate outcome belongs to the righteous, and that the punishment of Allah is the only punishment that truly matters. No matter how mighty a tyrant may seem in this world, he cannot escape the justice of Allah.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, this verse is a timeless reminder for every soul. Allah has sent His messengers throughout history — from Nuh to Ibrahim, from Musa to Isa, and finally, the Seal of the Prophets, Muhammad (peace be upon him) — all carrying the same essential message: worship Allah alone, follow His guidance, and prepare for the Day of Meeting with Him.

The choice is placed before each of us: Will we be among those who accept the truth with humility and sincerity? Or will we be among those who deny and turn away? The punishment of Allah is real, and His justice is absolute. But equally real is His mercy, which encompasses everything. The door of repentance remains open until the moment of death — so do not delay, and do not let pride or worldly distractions keep you from the path of salvation.

The prophets did not deliver this warning out of hatred or enmity — they delivered it out of profound love and compassion for humanity. They wanted nothing but good for their people. Likewise, this message reaches you today as a mercy from your Lord, inviting you to a life of peace, purpose, and eternal success. Respond to it before it is too late, and let your heart find rest in the remembrance of Allah.
