Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse paints a breathtaking picture of the ultimate reward that awaits those who return to their Lord with a pure heart and righteous deeds. It describes Gardens of ʿAdn — the eternal dwelling place of Paradise — where rivers flow gently beneath the palaces and trees, providing a scene of everlasting beauty and tranquility. The inhabitants are khālidīn fīhā, meaning they will remain there forever, never to leave, never to age, and never to experience any form of harm or sorrow.
The verse concludes with a profound statement: "And that is the reward of whoever purifies himself." This purification (tazkiyah) is not merely outward cleanliness; it is the deep, inner cleansing of the soul from the filth of polytheism, hypocrisy, and disobedience. It means submitting wholly to Allah alone, worshipping Him with sincerity, following His commands, and avoiding what He has forbidden. It is the path of those who, like the magicians of Pharaoh after witnessing the truth, cast aside their pride and worldly gains to embrace faith and humility before their Creator.
This divine promise serves as both an encouragement and a gentle warning. Allah, in His infinite mercy, does not leave His servants without hope; He opens the doors of His Paradise to anyone who sincerely strives to purify their heart and actions. The reward is not earned by mere wishful thinking, but by genuine effort to live a life of righteousness — a life that reflects the beauty of faith in every word and deed.
A Daʿwah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this magnificent promise! Allah is telling you that no matter your past, no matter how heavy your sins, the door of purification is always open. Every sincere step you take toward Him — every prayer, every act of charity, every moment you resist temptation for His sake — is a step toward these eternal gardens. The world with all its fleeting pleasures cannot compare to even a single moment in that everlasting bliss. So purify your heart today, renew your intention, and let the rivers of Paradise inspire you to swim against the current of this temporary life. Your Lord is Generous, and His reward is beyond imagination. Will you not be among those who tazakkā?
