Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Āmanū (آمَنُوا): Those who have believed with sincere faith, firmly rooted in their hearts.
  • Wa ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāt (وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ): And performed righteous deeds — actions that are sound, sincere, and in accordance with Allah’s commands.
  • Maghfirah (مَغْفِرَةٌ): Forgiveness that covers sins and erases them entirely.
  • Rizq karīm (رِزْقٌ كَرِيمٌ): A generous, noble, and everlasting provision — referring to the delights of Paradise.

The Interpretation:

After the previous verse clarified the role of the Prophet ﷺ as a clear warner, this verse draws a beautiful and comforting contrast between the fate of the believers and that of the disbelievers. Allah says: *“But those who believe and do righteous deeds — for them is forgiveness and a noble provision.”*

This is a divine promise of immense mercy and bounty. The forgiveness mentioned here means that Allah, in His infinite grace, wipes away the sins of His believing servants — no matter how many or how great — and covers them with His pardon, so that they are not held accountable for them. This forgiveness is not earned by the believers through their own merit alone, but is a gift from Allah, the Most Merciful, who accepts their faith and good works.

The noble provision (rizq karīm) refers to the everlasting and exquisite sustenance of Paradise — gardens beneath which rivers flow, palaces, pure companions, delicious fruits, and delights that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever imagined. It is a provision that never diminishes, never ends, and is free from any blemish or hardship. Unlike the provision of this world, which is temporary and often accompanied by toil, the provision of the Hereafter is pure, abundant, and eternal.

This verse is a source of great hope and motivation for every believer. It teaches us that the path to Allah’s pleasure is simple yet profound: sincere faith coupled with righteous action. Faith alone is not enough — it must be accompanied by deeds that reflect that faith in daily life. And righteous deeds alone are not enough — they must be rooted in true belief. When both are combined, Allah’s mercy flows abundantly, granting forgiveness and the most honorable reward.

Dear reader, this is the beauty of Islam: it does not demand perfection from you, but it invites you to a life of faith and good deeds, and then promises you what no worldly treasure can match. No matter your past, no matter your mistakes, the door of repentance and forgiveness is wide open. Allah does not ask you to be sinless; He asks you to believe, to strive, and to return to Him. And when you do, His forgiveness will embrace you, and His noble provision will be your eternal home.

So let this verse fill your heart with hope and determination. Every good deed you do — a prayer, a kind word, a charity, a moment of patience — is a seed planted for that everlasting garden. And every sin you sincerely repent from is erased by His mercy. This is the promise of the One who never breaks His promise.

📜 Verse 48-52 — Al-Hajj

And for how many a city did I prolong enjoyment while it was committing wrong. Then I seized it, and to Me is the [final] destination.
Say, "O people, I am only to you a clear warner."
And those who have believed and done righteous deeds - for them is forgiveness and noble provision.
But the ones who strove against Our verses, [seeking] to cause failure - those are the companions of Hellfire.
And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet except that when he spoke [or recited], Satan threw into it [some misunderstanding]. But Allah abolishes that which Satan throws in; then Allah makes precise His verses. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.
