Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Fataranī" (فَطَرَنِي): Created me, brought me into existence from nothing, and shaped my nature upon the pure disposition (fitrah) of submission to Him.
  • "Turjaʿūn" (تُرْجَعُونَ): You will be returned, resurrected, and brought back to Him for reckoning and recompense.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse captures the profound and sincere words of a believing man from the people of the city mentioned in Surah Ya-Sin. He stood as a voice of truth among his community, calling them to the worship of Allah alone. His statement here is both a personal declaration and a rhetorical challenge to his people.

He says: "What is the matter with me that I do not worship the One who created me?" — meaning, what could possibly prevent me from devoting my worship to Allah, the Creator who originated my existence from nothing and fashioned me with perfect wisdom? There is no rational excuse, no valid barrier, and no justifiable reason to withhold worship from the One who gave me life, sight, hearing, and every blessing I possess.

Then he turns to his people and reminds them: "And to Him you will all be returned." This is a powerful reminder that death is not the end. Every soul will be resurrected and brought back to its Lord for final judgment. The One who created you in the beginning is fully capable of bringing you back after death. And since your ultimate return is to Him alone, your worship and devotion in this life should also be directed to Him alone.

This verse teaches us a profound lesson: the logic of faith is simple and undeniable. The Creator deserves worship. The One who gave us everything deserves our gratitude. And the One to whom we will all return deserves our obedience before that inevitable meeting. The believer's heart finds no difficulty in submitting to Allah, for it recognizes that worship is not a burden but a natural response to the countless blessings already received.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on this beautiful logic. If someone gave you a small gift, you would feel gratitude. So how about the One who gave you your very existence, your eyes that see, your heart that beats, your mind that thinks, and the earth beneath your feet? The believer's question in this verse is not one of doubt but of wonder — how could any sane person turn away from worshipping the One who created them and to whom they will surely return?

This verse invites you to examine your own relationship with your Creator. The door of repentance is always open, and the mercy of Allah is vast. Do not wait until the moment of return to realize what you should have done in this life. Come back to Allah today, worship Him sincerely, and you will find peace in this world and success in the next.

📜 Verse 20-24 — Yasin

And there came from the farthest end of the city a man, running. He said, "O my people, follow the messengers.
Follow those who do not ask of you [any] payment, and they are [rightly] guided.
And why should I not worship He who created me and to whom you will be returned?
Should I take other than Him [false] deities [while], if the Most Merciful intends for me some adversity, their intercession will not avail me at all, nor can they save me?
Indeed, I would then be in manifest error.
