Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Hayyan" (حَيًّا): Here it refers to one who is alive in heart and intellect—possessing a sound mind, an enlightened insight, and a receptive soul that can perceive the truth and respond to it.
  • "Yaḥiqqa al-qawl" (وَيَحِقَّ الْقَوْلُ): Means that the word of punishment and divine decree becomes due and obligatory—i.e., the promised torment is confirmed and warranted.
  • "Al-Kāfirīn" (الْكَافِرِينَ): Those who persist in disbelief and stubbornly reject the truth after it has been made clear to them.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse concludes the purpose of the Qur'an and the mission of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It clarifies that the Qur'an was not sent down as poetry or entertainment, but as a living reminder and a clear, decisive revelation that distinguishes truth from falsehood. Its purpose is twofold:

First: It is meant to warn and awaken those who are truly alive—alive in their hearts, sound in their minds, and open in their vision. Such people benefit from the Qur'an because they reflect, listen with sincerity, and allow its light to penetrate their souls. For them, the Qur'an becomes a guide that leads them from darkness into light, from ignorance into knowledge, and from misguidance into righteousness. They are like fertile soil that receives rain and produces abundant harvest.

Second: It establishes the conclusive proof against the disbelievers who persist in their denial and arrogance. When the message reaches them clearly and they still choose to reject it, the divine word of punishment becomes due upon them. They have no excuse left, for the truth was presented to them in the most eloquent and unambiguous manner, yet they turned away. Thus, their punishment is just and deserved, for they rejected the mercy that was extended to them.

This verse carries a profound lesson: the Qur'an is not merely a book to be recited; it is a living call that awakens hearts and holds people accountable. The key to benefiting from it lies in the state of one's heart. A living heart recognizes its Creator, yearns for guidance, and submits to the truth. A dead heart, however, remains sealed, and no amount of evidence can penetrate it.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse invites you to ask yourself: Is my heart alive? The Qur'an is not a book of the past—it is a message for you, right here and now. Every verse calls out to you, offering light, mercy, and salvation. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was sent as a mercy to all of humanity, and this Qur'an is the greatest gift you can receive.

Do not let your heart be among the dead. Wake it up with reflection, with sincere supplication, and with the determination to follow the truth. The door of repentance is open, and the mercy of Allah is vast. Every moment you turn to Him, He turns to you with even greater love and forgiveness.

And beware of the fate of those who persist in disbelief after the truth has reached them. Their punishment is not because Allah is unjust—it is because they closed their eyes to the clearest light and their ears to the most beautiful message. Do not let that be your end. Choose life for your heart today, and you will find peace in this world and success in the Hereafter.

📜 Verse 68-72 — Yasin

And he to whom We grant long life We reverse in creation; so will they not understand?
And We did not give Prophet Muhammad, knowledge of poetry, nor is it befitting for him. It is not but a message and a clear Qur'an
To warn whoever is alive and justify the word against the disbelievers.
Do they not see that We have created for them from what Our hands have made, grazing livestock, and [then] they are their owners?
And We have tamed them for them, so some of them they ride, and some of them they eat.
