Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- An‘ām (أَنْعَامًا): Livestock, specifically camels, cattle, sheep, and goats — animals created for the service and benefit of humanity.
- Mālikūn (مَالِكُونَ): Owners who have full authority and control over something, able to dispose of it as they wish.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse invites people to reflect on one of the most evident signs of Allah’s power and mercy: the creation of livestock. Allah asks, "Do they not see that We have created for them, from what Our Hands have made, livestock, and they are their owners?"
The phrase "from what Our Hands have made" emphasizes that Allah alone — without any partner, helper, or assistant — originated and perfected the creation of these animals. It is a statement of absolute divine power and sole sovereignty over creation. No one else contributed to their existence, and no one else sustains them.
These animals were not created wild, untamed, or hostile to humans. Rather, Allah subjugated them to humanity, making them gentle, manageable, and obedient to human will. People own them, lead them, ride them, milk them, eat their meat, use their skins and wool, and employ them for transport and labor. This ownership is not something humans achieved by their own might or intelligence; it is a gift from Allah, granted out of His mercy and wisdom.
The verse carries a profound lesson: if people truly reflected on this reality, they would recognize Allah’s unmatched power and His boundless kindness toward them. They would realize that the One who created these animals for their benefit deserves gratitude, worship, and obedience — not denial or ingratitude.
A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:
Dear reader, pause and consider: every time you drink milk, every time you ride an animal or use its wool, every time you eat meat — you are touching a direct blessing from your Lord. These animals are living proof that Allah loves you and cares for your needs. He could have made them ferocious and untamable, but He made them submissive for your sake.
This is an invitation to open your heart to faith. If you see these countless blessings around you, how can you not believe in the One who granted them? How can you not thank the One who provided them? Let this reflection lead you to worship Allah alone, with sincerity and love, for He is the true Owner of everything, and He has made you a caretaker of His creation on earth.
