Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Āthāran (آثَارًا): Traces, marks, and lasting constructions they left behind on earth, such as buildings, civilizations, and monuments.
- Wāqin (وَاقٍ): A protector, defender, or shield that could guard them from Allah's punishment.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Have these deniers of your message, O Messenger, not traveled through the land and observed with their own eyes the fate of the nations who came before them? They were people of immense strength—mightier in body, more powerful in force, and far more advanced in their civilization, leaving behind grand structures and lasting monuments that these people today cannot even match. Yet, despite all their power and achievements, when they persisted in disbelief and sin, Allah seized them with His punishment for their transgressions. Their strength did not protect them, their wealth did not save them, and their mighty constructions crumbled into ruin. They had no protector from Allah—no fortress, no army, no deity could shield them from His justice.
This is a profound lesson for humanity: worldly power is fleeting, but divine justice is certain. No matter how advanced a society becomes, no matter how towering its buildings or how formidable its armies, if it turns away from its Creator, its end will be destruction. The Qur'an repeatedly calls us to reflect on history—not as mere stories, but as living evidence of a universal truth: Allah's law prevails, and His reckoning is inescapable.
So, dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. Do not be deceived by the temporary glories of this world, nor by the apparent strength of those who oppose the truth. Look at the ruins of past civilizations—where are their kings, their warriors, their engineers? They are gone, while Allah remains eternal. The only true protection lies in turning to Him, submitting to His will, and living a life of righteousness. For whoever seeks refuge in Allah, He is the Best Protector; but whoever defies Him, no power on earth can stand as a shield against His decree. Let this reflection draw you closer to your Lord, for the door of repentance is open, and His mercy embraces all who return to Him sincerely.
