Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Bil-bayyināt (بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ): Clear proofs, evident miracles, and undeniable signs that demonstrate the truth of the messengers' call.
  • Fakafarū (فَكَفَرُوا): They rejected and disbelieved, covering the truth after it had been made manifest to them.
  • Fa-akhadhahumu Allāh (فَأَخَذَهُمُ اللَّهُ): Allah seized them with His punishment—a sudden, decisive, and inescapable retribution.
  • Qawiyy (قَوِيٌّ): The All-Powerful, Whose might nothing can resist or overcome.
  • Shadīd al-ʿiqāb (شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ): Severe in punishment—His chastisement is overwhelming and beyond compare.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse reveals the profound reason behind the destruction that befell the disbelieving nations of the past. It was not arbitrary or unjust; rather, it was the direct and inevitable consequence of their own choices. Allah sent to them His messengers—chosen individuals from among their own people—bearing clear proofs, dazzling miracles, and unassailable evidence of the truth. These signs were not ambiguous or hidden; they were luminous and compelling, leaving no room for doubt in the hearts of those who sincerely sought guidance.

Yet, despite the clarity of these proofs, the people responded with arrogance and stubbornness. They rejected the messengers, denied the signs, and persisted in their disbelief. They did not merely turn away—they actively fought against the truth and opposed those who conveyed it. In response to their ingratitude and defiance, Allah seized them with His mighty punishment. Their strength, wealth, and numbers could not protect them; their fortresses and armies were of no avail. Allah took them in a manner that demonstrated His absolute power and sovereignty.

The verse concludes with a powerful reminder of two of Allah's attributes: He is Qawiyy—the All-Powerful, Whose might is limitless and Whose will is always executed—and Shadīd al-ʿiqāb—the Severe in punishment, Whose retribution is fitting for those who persist in disbelief and disobedience. This is not merely a historical account; it is a timeless warning. The same fate awaits those who reject the final message brought by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), for Allah's power has not diminished, and His justice remains absolute.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this verse. The messengers of Allah came with the same essential message throughout history: worship Allah alone and follow His guidance. The proofs they brought were sufficient for any sincere seeker of truth. Yet, the arrogant and the heedless chose to reject them—and they faced the consequences.

Today, you have been blessed with the Qur'an, the greatest miracle of all, and the final revelation that confirms and supersedes all previous scriptures. The signs of Allah are all around you: in the heavens, the earth, and within your own soul. Do not be like those who saw the truth clearly and still turned away. Embrace the message of Islam with an open heart, submit to your Creator, and follow the example of His beloved Messenger. For Allah is indeed All-Powerful, and His punishment is severe—but His mercy, forgiveness, and reward for those who believe and do righteous deeds are far greater and everlasting. Seize this opportunity before it is too late, and let this verse be a gentle yet firm reminder that guides you to the straight path of success in this life and the Hereafter.

📜 Verse 20-24 — Ghafir

And Allah judges with truth, while those they invoke besides Him judge not with anything. Indeed, Allah - He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those who were before them? They were greater than them in strength and in impression on the land, but Allah seized them for their sins. And they had not from Allah any protector.
That was because their messengers were coming to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved, so Allah seized them. Indeed, He is Powerful and severe in punishment.
And We did certainly send Moses with Our signs and a clear authority
To Pharaoh, Haman and Qarun; but they said, "[He is] a magician and a liar."
