Word Meanings:

- فتنة (Fitnah): Here it means a trial, test, or tribulation—a means by which people’s true nature is revealed.
- فارتقبهم (Fartaqibhum): Wait and watch them closely, anticipating what will befall them.
- واصطبر (Was-tabir): Be patient and steadfast, enduring their harm with perseverance and composure.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse addresses Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) and his people, the Thamud, who had arrogantly demanded a miracle to prove his prophethood. They challenged him to bring forth a she-camel from a specific rock, not out of sincere belief, but out of stubbornness and mockery. Allah, in His infinite wisdom and power, responded to their demand: "Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as a trial for them."
The she-camel was not merely a miracle for entertainment—it was a decisive test. It would separate the believers from the disbelievers, the humble from the arrogant. The people were given clear instructions: they were to let her drink from the water source on designated days and were forbidden from harming her. Their reaction to this divine sign would determine their fate.
Allah then commands His Prophet Salih: "So wait for them and be patient." This means: observe what they will do with this she-camel, and watch how they respond to this trial. Do not rush or despair—your role is to deliver the message, and My role is to judge and recompense. Be patient in the face of their insults, their rejection, and their threats. The outcome is in My hands, and I am fully aware of all that they do.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer. When Allah tests people, it is not to harm them, but to reveal their inner reality and to give them a chance to rise in faith. The she-camel was a mercy and a sign, yet the Thamud turned it into a reason for their own destruction. How often do we, too, receive blessings and signs from Allah—yet respond with ingratitude or arrogance?
The command to "wait and be patient" is a timeless guidance for all who carry the message of truth. In a world where falsehood often seems loud and triumphant, the believer is called to remain steadfast, trusting in Allah’s justice and timing. Patience is not weakness; it is the strength of those who know that Allah’s promise is true. So, dear reader, when you face trials or when you see others reject the truth, remember this verse: your duty is to remain patient, to stay firm, and to leave the results to the One who never fails His promise. Indeed, Allah’s help is near for those who persevere.
