Tafsir (Explanation):

After describing the foremost believers (As-Sabiqun) who hold the highest ranks, Allah now turns to the second group — the Companions of the Right Hand. The verse exclaims with wonder and admiration: "And the companions of the right — what are the companions of the right!" This rhetorical question is not seeking an answer but rather expressing astonishment at their immense honor and exalted status. It is as if Allah is drawing attention to how magnificent their reward will be, leaving the listener in awe of their greatness.

These are the people who will be given their records in their right hands — a sign of divine pleasure and acceptance. They are the righteous believers who strove in obedience to Allah, followed His commands, and avoided His prohibitions, though they may not have reached the absolute pinnacle of the foremost believers. Their reward, as detailed in the following verses, includes gardens of bliss with thornless lote trees, clustered bananas, extended shade, flowing water, abundant fruits that never cease, and elevated couches — all prepared for them as a generous hospitality from their Lord.

This verse serves as a beautiful reminder that Allah's mercy is vast and His rewards are beyond imagination. Every sincere believer who strives in goodness — regardless of their level — has a promised place of honor. The Companions of the Right Hand are a source of hope for the average believer who may feel they fall short of the highest ranks.
