Word Meanings:

  • Qeelan (قِيلًا): A saying, statement, or utterance.
  • Salaaman (سَلَامًا): Peace, safety, and freedom from all harm or defect. Its repetition emphasizes the abundance and continuity of this greeting.

Explanation of the Verse:

In the previous verses, Allah described the blessed state of the foremost believers (Al-Sabiqoon) in Paradise. Now, He clarifies what they will hear in that eternal abode: they will not hear any idle talk, falsehood, or sinful speech—nothing that would burden their conscience or cause them any discomfort. Instead, the only words that will reach their ears are greetings of peace.

This is an exclusive exception: the sole utterance in Paradise is "Peace, peace." The angels will greet them with peace, and they will greet one another with peace, repeating it again and again. It is a continuous, unbroken exchange of safety and tranquility—free from the noise, gossip, and harmful words that often mar worldly conversations. Every meeting, every moment, is filled with the purest form of well-wishing: a prayer for absolute safety and eternal bliss.

A Call to Reflection:

Imagine a place where your ears never catch a harsh word, where no voice raises in anger, where no backbiting or mockery exists—only the gentle, reassuring echo of "Peace" from every direction. This is the reward Allah has prepared for those who purify their tongues in this life. The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught us that spreading peace (salaam) is among the best deeds in Islam, and it is a means to enter Paradise. So, let us be people of peace here on earth—greeting others warmly, avoiding harmful speech, and spreading harmony—so that we may be among those who hear this eternal greeting in the Hereafter. May Allah make us among the dwellers of Paradise who are honored with His peace, for He is the Most Generous, the Most Merciful.
