The Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, declares that He has sent His messengers throughout history with clear proofs and undeniable miracles—signs that leave no room for doubt in the hearts of those who reflect. Along with these messengers, He revealed divine scriptures containing comprehensive laws and guidance for humanity, and He established the scale of justice, so that people would deal with one another in absolute fairness and equity. This is the foundation of a healthy society: truth revealed from above, and justice practiced on earth.
Then Allah draws our attention to something remarkable: He also sent down iron—a substance of immense power and numerous benefits. Iron is mentioned here alongside the scriptures because true justice and faith cannot be upheld by words alone; they require strength and the means to defend what is right. In iron there is severe might—it is used in weapons to protect the truth and deter oppression—and there are countless benefits for people in their daily lives, from construction to industry to tools that ease their labor. This teaches us that Islam does not separate spirituality from worldly strength; rather, it calls for a balanced life where faith is protected and civilization flourishes.
Allah then reveals the deeper purpose behind all this: so that it becomes manifest who truly supports Allah and His messengers by believing in the unseen, without seeing Him, and by striving with their wealth, their strength, and their lives. This is a test of sincerity—those who help Allah's cause are not doing so because they see Him, but because their hearts are filled with conviction and love for Him. Their reward is with Allah alone, and their faith is genuine.
Finally, Allah reassures us: "Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might." He does not need our support, for He is self-sufficient and invincible. Rather, He grants us the honor of being His helpers on earth, and He promises victory to those who stand for truth. So let this verse inspire you: be a bearer of justice, a seeker of knowledge, and a defender of what is right—using both the softness of wisdom and the strength of resolve. Allah is with those who support His cause, and He never abandons His sincere servants.
