Word Meanings:

  • Al-Fadl (الفضل): The abundant grace, bounty, and generosity of Allah.
  • Ahl al-Kitab (أهل الكتاب): The People of the Book, referring to the Jews and Christians who received earlier scriptures.
  • La yaqdirun (لا يَقْدِرُونَ): They are not able, incapable, or powerless.
  • Bi-yadillah (بيد الله): Literally "in the Hand of Allah," meaning entirely within His control, authority, and disposal.
  • Dhul-Fadl al-‘Azim (ذو الفضل العظيم): The Owner of immense and magnificent bounty.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse concludes the chapter of Al-Hadid with a profound lesson directed at the People of the Book—those who were given the Torah and the Gospel but did not believe in the final Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him). Allah informs us that He has granted the believers a great reward and doubled their blessings, and He did so for a specific purpose: so that the People of the Book may come to realize, with certainty, that they have no power whatsoever to obtain any portion of Allah’s grace by their own efforts, nor can they grant it to others, nor can they prevent it from reaching whomever Allah wills.

The verse strips away any illusion of human control over divine favor. It declares that all grace, all bounty, all goodness—whether in this world or the Hereafter—lies entirely in the Hand of Allah alone. He gives it to whom He wills, and He withholds it from whom He wills, and no one can question His decision. He is the All-Powerful, the All-Wise, and His choice is always perfect.

The verse then concludes with a magnificent attribute: "And Allah is the Owner of Great Bounty." This means that His generosity is not limited or measured; it is vast, overwhelming, and beyond human comprehension. His grace encompasses everything, and His giving is not based on anyone’s merit alone but on His infinite mercy and wisdom.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder deeply on this verse, for it carries a message of hope and humility. If the People of the Book—who possessed scriptures and knowledge—could not secure even a fraction of Allah’s favor through their own claims and efforts, then how can anyone, from any background, imagine that they can earn Allah’s grace through their own power? The door to Allah’s bounty is not opened by lineage, wealth, or status, but by sincere faith, humble submission, and following the truth that He has revealed.

This verse invites you to let go of pride and self-reliance, and to turn your heart entirely to Allah. His hand is open, His mercy is vast, and His generosity is boundless. He gives to whom He wills—and He wills good for those who sincerely seek Him. So do not despair, and do not think that His grace is out of reach. Rather, rush to His obedience, embrace His guidance, and trust in His promise. For He is the Owner of Great Bounty, and His giving is greater than any sin, any shortcoming, or any failure you may have experienced.

Let this verse be a source of comfort and motivation: the grace of Allah is not a prize for the elite; it is a gift for the humble, the repentant, and the faithful. And He has chosen to bestow it upon the followers of His final Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him), as a mercy to all of humanity. So seize this opportunity, and let your heart be filled with gratitude and hope in the One whose bounty knows no end.

📜 Verse 27-29 — Al-Hadid

Then We sent following their footsteps Our messengers and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospel. And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy and monasticism, which they innovated; We did not prescribe it for them except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allah. But they did not observe it with due observance. So We gave the ones who believed among them their reward, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.
O you who have believed, fear Allah and believe in His Messenger; He will [then] give you a double portion of His mercy and make for you a light by which you will walk and forgive you; and Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
[This is] so that the People of the Scripture may know that they are not able [to obtain] anything from the bounty of Allah and that [all] bounty is in the hand of Allah; He gives it to whom He wills. And Allah is the possessor of great bounty.
