Explanation of the Verse:
This verse unveils a profound truth about the nature of false alliances and hypocritical promises. Allah informs us that even if the Jewish tribe of Banu Nadir were to be expelled from their homes in Madinah, the hypocrites who had secretly pledged to stand by them would never actually leave with them. Their promises were empty words, devoid of any real commitment or sacrifice.
Furthermore, if the Banu Nadir were to be fought against, the hypocrites would not come to their aid as they had claimed. And even if, hypothetically, they did muster the courage to support them, they would soon turn their backs and flee in utter panic and cowardice, leaving their allies to face destruction alone. In the end, neither the hypocrites nor the Jews would receive any divine help, for Allah abandons those who break their covenants and rely on falsehood.
This verse was revealed as a warning and a prophecy, and indeed, history confirmed it exactly as Allah stated. When the Muslims laid siege to Banu Nadir, the hypocrites—led by Abdullah ibn Ubayy—had promised to fight alongside them, but when the moment of truth arrived, they abandoned them completely, and the Jews were left with no choice but to surrender and leave Madinah.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this verse and see how Allah, the All-Knowing, exposes the reality of those who rely on anything other than Him. The hypocrites thought they could secure themselves by forging alliances with the enemies of Islam, but their plans crumbled like dust in the wind. This is a timeless lesson: no alliance, no worldly power, and no human support can ever replace the protection of Allah. When you place your trust in Allah alone, He suffices you; but when you depend on others, you will find yourself abandoned in your greatest moments of need.
Let this verse strengthen your faith and purify your heart. Be sincere in your words and deeds, for Allah knows what is in your hearts. Do not be like those who promise support but flee when hardship comes. Instead, be among the truthful believers who stand firm with their brothers and sisters in faith, knowing that victory comes only from Allah, the Mighty, the Wise. And remember, the ultimate success is not in worldly alliances but in the pleasure of your Lord and His eternal reward.
