Word Meanings:

  • Hādū (هَادُوا): Those who embraced Judaism, or followed the Jewish faith.
  • Awliyā' (أَوْلِيَاءُ): Close allies, beloved friends, or those granted special protection and honor.
  • Tamannaw (تَمَنَّوُا): Wish for, desire, or long for.
  • Sādiqīn (صَادِقِينَ): Truthful ones, those who are honest in their claims.

Explanation of the Verse:

O Messenger, say to those who follow the Jewish faith: "O you who have adopted Judaism — if you truly claim, as you do, that you are Allah's beloved allies and chosen ones, favored by Him above all other people, then wish for death!" For if you are indeed so honored and beloved by Allah, and if your claim is sincere, then death would be the gateway to His reward, His Paradise, and His eternal pleasure. Why would you fear it or flee from it? The one who is certain of his high rank with Allah longs to meet Him. So if you are truthful in your claim, then call for death — but you will never do so, because you know well what your hands have sent forth, and that the Hereafter holds for you what your deeds deserve. This challenge exposes the falsehood of your claim, for no one who truly believes he is beloved to Allah would shy away from meeting Him, especially when that meeting brings everlasting bliss. Indeed, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, if any one of them (the Jews) wished for death, he would surely die, and he would see his place in the Fire." This verse stands as a timeless proof of the truth of Islam and the sincerity of the Prophet's message, for the Jews of his time were challenged openly, yet none dared to accept the test — a clear sign that their claim was nothing but a false assertion.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder this profound challenge: Allah, in His perfect wisdom, gave the People of the Book a test that would instantly reveal the truth or falsehood of their claim. This is the way of Allah — He always provides clear signs for those who seek the truth. The fact that no Jew of that era ever accepted this challenge is living proof, preserved in history, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) spoke the truth. This verse also teaches us a beautiful lesson: true love for Allah is not merely a claim on the tongue, but a reality that manifests in one's longing to meet Him. The believer who truly loves Allah does not cling to this worldly life, but prepares for the eternal life to come, with good deeds, sincere repentance, and a heart attached to its Lord. Let this be an invitation to you, dear reader — to examine your own claim of faith. Are you among those who truly love Allah and long for His meeting? If so, then hasten to what pleases Him, and let your life be a journey toward His pleasure, for the Hereafter is far better and more lasting than this fleeting world. May Allah guide us all to the straight path and make us among His sincere servants.

📜 Verse 4-8 — Al-Jumu'ah

That is the bounty of Allah, which He gives to whom He wills, and Allah is the possessor of great bounty.
The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not take it on is like that of a donkey who carries volumes [of books]. Wretched is the example of the people who deny the signs of Allah. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.
Say, "O you who are Jews, if you claim that you are allies of Allah, excluding the [other] people, then wish for death, if you should be truthful."
But they will not wish for it, ever, because of what their hands have put forth. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers.
Say, "Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you about what you used to do."
