Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ — There is no deity worthy of worship except Him.
- فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ — So let them rely, trust, and place their full dependence.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse stands as a magnificent declaration of the purest creed — the Oneness of Allah (Tawhid). Allah informs us that He alone is the true Deity; there is no god worthy of worship, no lord deserving of obedience, and no object of devotion that holds any reality besides Him. Every other so-called deity — whether an idol, a human, a celestial body, or a worldly desire — is false and void. Only Allah, the Creator and Sustainer of all existence, possesses the right to be worshipped.
After establishing this foundational truth, the verse directs the believers to a natural consequence of their faith: "And upon Allah let the believers rely." This is both a command and an encouragement. The believers — those who have sincerely affirmed His Oneness — are urged to place their complete trust in Allah alone in all their affairs. Not in their wealth, not in their status, not in their plans, and not in other human beings — but in Allah, the All-Powerful, the All-Wise.
This verse also serves as a powerful motivation for believers to remain steadfast upon the religion of Allah, even in the face of trials and hardships. When you know that your Lord is the only true God, and when you place your trust fully in Him, your heart finds peace, your resolve strengthens, and you become unshaken by the storms of life. The one who relies on Allah is never truly alone, never truly helpless, and never without a way out.
Dear believer, reflect on this beautiful connection: true faith (iman) naturally produces true reliance (tawakkul). And true reliance brings with it a tranquility that no worldly comfort can provide. When you wake up each morning and place your affairs in Allah's hands, you are following the path of the prophets and the righteous. You are declaring with your heart, "My Lord is enough for me, and He is the best disposer of affairs."
So let this verse be a source of strength for you. Whatever challenges you face — in your family, your work, your health, or your community — know that Allah is the only true God, and upon Him you can rely completely. He will never abandon those who trust in Him. He will open doors you never imagined, and He will grant you a light in your heart that illuminates your path. This is the promise of the One who never breaks His promise.
