Word Meanings:
- سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ (Seven heavens): The seven celestial layers created by Allah, one above the other.
- وَمِنَ الْأَرْضِ مِثْلَهُنَّ (And from the earth, their like): Seven earths, corresponding in number to the seven heavens.
- يَتَنَزَّلُ الْأَمْرُ بَيْنَهُنَّ (The command descends between them): Allah’s divine decree, revelation, and management of all affairs descends from the highest heaven down to the lowest earth.
- أَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عِلْمًا (Encompasses all things in knowledge): Allah’s knowledge covers everything—nothing is hidden from Him, whether in the heavens or on earth.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah—alone, with no partner—is the One who created seven heavens, layered one above another, and likewise created seven earths, matching them in number. From the highest heaven to the lowest earth, His command descends: His revelation to His messengers, His divine decrees, and His management of all creation—life, death, provision, and every affair. This magnificent creation and the continuous descent of His command are not random or purposeless; rather, they serve a profound purpose: that you, O people, may come to know with certainty that Allah is All-Powerful over everything—nothing can escape His might, no matter how great or small—and that Allah’s knowledge encompasses all things completely, so that not even the weight of an atom escapes Him, nor a single secret in the heavens or the earth.
Reflect, dear reader, on the greatness of this verse. The One who created seven heavens and seven earths, and who manages every affair between them, is the very One who watches over you, hears your prayers, and knows your innermost thoughts. If He is capable of creating such vast universes and sustaining them every moment, then surely He is capable of answering your supplication, relieving your distress, and granting you what is best. Let this knowledge fill your heart with tranquility and trust in Him. When you realize that His power knows no limits and His knowledge leaves nothing out, you will find peace in surrendering your affairs to Him, for He is the Most Merciful, the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful. Turn to Him with a sincere heart, for He is closer to you than your own jugular vein, and His door is always open to those who call upon Him.
