Surah Al-Mulk — Verse 13

Word Meanings:

• وَأَسِرُّوا قَوْلَكُمْ – Keep your speech secret, conceal it within yourselves.
• أَوِ اجْهَرُوا بِهِ – Or make it public and speak it aloud.
• عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ – Fully Aware of what lies hidden within the breasts (the innermost secrets of the hearts).

Explanation of the Verse:

O people, whether you conceal your words in the depths of your hearts or proclaim them openly in the loudest of voices, it makes no difference to Allah — for both are perfectly known to Him. He is the All-Knowing, the All-Aware, and nothing escapes His knowledge, not even the faintest whisper of a thought that crosses your mind. If He knows the secret intentions and hidden feelings that reside within your chests — those things you may not even dare to utter to yourself — then how could your spoken words, whether whispered in secrecy or declared in public, ever be hidden from Him? Indeed, the One who knows the unspoken secrets of the heart certainly knows the words that pass your lips, and even your deeds that follow.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse is a profound reminder of the intimate connection between the servant and his Lord. Allah does not need spies or informants to know your state — He knows you directly, personally, and completely. This is not a message to frighten you, but to comfort you. When you pray secretly in the depths of the night, He hears you. When you struggle silently with a hardship, He knows. When you hide a good deed to protect your sincerity, He sees it. And when you sin in the darkness of seclusion, He knows that too — yet He gives you time to repent. So let this awareness fill your heart with both hope and mindfulness: hope, because your Lord is always near and always aware of your efforts; and mindfulness, because nothing you do is ever truly hidden. Let this knowledge draw you closer to Him, making your faith a living reality in every moment — for the One who knows the secrets of your heart is the One who deserves your complete trust and devotion.
