Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Jund (جُنْد): An army, troop, or group of supporters ready to defend and protect.
- Min dūni ar-Raḥmān (مِن دُونِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ): Apart from or besides the Most Merciful — meaning, other than Allah.
- Ghurūr (غُرُور): Self-deception, delusion, or being fooled by false hopes and vain desires.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Most Merciful, poses a powerful, rhetorical question to those who deny His sovereignty and worship others besides Him: "Who is this that can be an army for you to help you besides the Most Merciful?" In other words, if the Most Merciful were to send down His punishment or decree any harm upon you, who among your so-called protectors — your idols, your wealth, your status, your allies — could possibly shield you from His will? The answer is self-evident: no one. No army, no power, no force in existence can stand against the decree of Allah. Yet the disbelievers, in their arrogance and heedlessness, imagine that they have protectors and supporters who can save them. This is nothing but pure delusion — a deception woven by Satan and their own vain desires. They are living in a mirage, believing they are secure while standing on the edge of destruction.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound truth: your true protector, your real defender, is none other than Allah — the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Every breath you take, every heartbeat, every moment of safety you enjoy is a gift from Him alone. No army, no wealth, no worldly power can grant you security for even a blink of an eye if Allah wills otherwise. Yet, how often do we forget this? How often do we place our trust in people, systems, or material means, while neglecting the One who controls all affairs?
This verse is a loving reminder from your Creator — a call to wake up from the slumber of heedlessness. It invites you to break free from the deception of Satan and the illusions of this world, and to turn your heart to the One who truly deserves your trust and devotion. The Qur'an is not merely a book of warnings; it is a beacon of guidance, a mercy for humanity, and a path to eternal success. Embrace it, and you will find a protector who never fails, a helper who is always near, and a Lord whose mercy encompasses all things. Do not let the whispers of Shaytan deceive you, for his promises are nothing but empty words. Place your trust in Allah, and you will find peace that transcends all worldly concerns.
