Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Amsaka (أمسك): To withhold or hold back.
- Rizqahu (رزقه): His provision or sustenance.
- Lajju (لجوا): They persisted or obstinately continued.
- Utuww (عتو): Arrogance, transgression, or insolence.
- Nufur (نفور): Aversion, fleeing from, or turning away (from the truth).
Tafsir (Explanation):
After Allah Almighty reminded the disbelievers of His countless blessings—such as the birds soaring above them, held in the sky by His mercy alone—He now poses a striking, humbling question: "Who is this that could provide for you if He withholds His provision?" Think deeply about this, dear reader. If Allah—the Most Merciful, the Sustainer of all worlds—were to stop sending down rain, or halt the growth of crops, or close the doors of sustenance entirely, who on earth could possibly grant you even a single morsel of food or a drop of water? No one! Absolutely no one. All the wealth, power, and resources of the world combined could not create a single grain of rice without Allah’s will. Yet, despite this undeniable truth, the disbelievers did not learn their lesson. Instead of submitting to their Lord in gratitude, they obstinately persisted in their arrogance, pride, and stubborn refusal to accept the truth. They turned away from the clear signs of Allah, fleeing from guidance as if it were a burden too heavy to bear.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
O beloved reader, let this verse awaken your heart! Look around you—at the food on your table, the water you drink, the air you breathe. Every single blessing is a gift from Allah alone, sustained by His mercy every moment. If He willed, He could take it all away in the blink of an eye. So why not turn to Him with love, gratitude, and submission? Why not soften your heart before His majesty? The Qur'an is not merely a book—it is a living invitation to eternal success. Do not be like those who persisted in arrogance until it was too late. Instead, be among those who respond to their Lord with humility and devotion, for He is the One who provides, protects, and guides to the straight path. Embrace Islam with a sincere heart, and you will find peace that no worldly treasure can ever match.
