📖 English Meaning
And when Moses arrived at Our appointed time and his Lord spoke to him, he said, "My Lord, show me [Yourself] that I may look at You." But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level, and Moses fell unconscious. And when he awoke, he said, "Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first of the believers."

Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Mīqātinā (مِيقَاتِنَا): Our appointed time — the specific time Allah had set for Prophet Musa (Moses) to come for the divine conversation.
  • Arinī (أَرِنِي): Show me — a request to see Allah.
  • Lan tarānī (لَن تَرَانِي): You will never see Me — indicating the impossibility of seeing Allah in this worldly life.
  • Tajallā (تَجَلَّى): Manifested — the appearance of Allah's divine light and glory.
  • Dakkan (دَكًّا): Leveled to the ground — crushed and flattened completely.
  • Ṣaʿiqan (صَعِقًا): Struck unconscious — overwhelmed and fainted from the sheer awe and terror of the sight.
  • Afaqa (أَفَاقَ): Regained consciousness — came back to his senses.
  • Subḥānaka (سُبْحَانَكَ): Glory be to You — declaring Allah's absolute perfection and transcendence above any deficiency.

The Tafsir (Explanation):

When Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) arrived at the appointed time — the completion of forty nights — to meet his Lord, Allah spoke to him directly, honoring him with His divine words of commands and prohibitions. This was a moment of immense spiritual elevation for Musa, a prophet chosen and favored by Allah. Yet, upon hearing the sweet speech of his Creator, his heart yearned for more. Overwhelmed by love and longing, he asked: "My Lord, show Yourself to me so that I may look upon You."

Allah, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, responded: "You will never see Me" — not as a punishment, but because no human being in this worldly life has the capacity to behold Allah's glorious essence. To teach Musa this profound truth in a way his heart could grasp, Allah gave him a test: "Look at that mountain. If it remains firm and steadfast in its place, then you shall see Me." This was a clear indication that even the mighty, solid mountain — far stronger than any human — could not withstand the divine manifestation.

Then came the moment of awe: when Allah manifested His glory to the mountain, it crumbled into dust, leveled completely to the ground. At that sight, Musa fell unconscious, struck by the overwhelming majesty of what he witnessed. This was a powerful lesson — if the mountain, with all its strength and firmness, could not endure even a glimpse of Allah's glory, then how could a human being, frail and weak, bear the full vision of his Lord in this life?

When Musa regained consciousness, he immediately turned to his Lord in sincere repentance and profound humility. He declared: "Glory be to You! I repent to You" — from asking what was not appropriate for him to ask in this world — "and I am the first of the believers" — the first to believe that Allah cannot be seen in this worldly life, and the first among his people to submit to Allah's will with complete acceptance.

A Da'wah Reflection for the Reader:

This beautiful story carries a treasure of lessons for every believer. It shows us the deep love and longing that a prophet of Allah had for his Creator — a love so intense that he yearned to see Him. Yet, it also teaches us the importance of accepting Allah's wisdom with complete submission. When Musa asked and was told "no," he did not argue or become disappointed. Instead, he immediately repented and affirmed his faith.

Dear reader, this is the essence of Islam: to love Allah with all your heart, to strive to draw closer to Him, and yet to accept His decree with complete trust and contentment. The greatest joy for a believer is not in this world, but in the Hereafter — where Allah has promised the believers the ultimate reward: to see their Lord in Paradise. That is the vision that awaits those who are patient and faithful. So let this story inspire you to purify your heart, strengthen your faith, and look forward to that eternal moment when Allah will reveal Himself to His righteous servants — a joy that surpasses every pleasure of this world.

📜 Verse 141-145 — Al-A'raf

And [recall, O Children of Israel], when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh, [who were] afflicting you with the worst torment - killing your sons and keeping your women alive. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.
And We made an appointment with Moses for thirty nights and perfected them by [the addition of] ten; so the term of his Lord was completed as forty nights. And Moses said to his brother Aaron, "Take my place among my people, do right [by them], and do not follow the way of the corrupters."
And when Moses arrived at Our appointed time and his Lord spoke to him, he said, "My Lord, show me [Yourself] that I may look at You." [Allah] said, "You will not see Me, but look at the mountain; if it should remain in place, then you will see Me." But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level, and Moses fell unconscious. And when he awoke, he said, "Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first of the believers."
[Allah] said, "O Moses, I have chosen you over the people with My messages and My words [to you]. So take what I have given you and be among the grateful."
And We wrote for him on the tablets [something] of all things - instruction and explanation for all things, [saying], "Take them with determination and order your people to take the best of it. I will show you the home of the defiantly disobedient."
