Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, Allah addresses His Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) with words of immense honour and distinction. Allah says: "O Musa, indeed I have chosen you above the people with My Messages and with My speaking to you."
This is a declaration of a great divine favour: Allah selected Musa from among all humanity of his time to carry the heavy trust of prophethood, to deliver His divine law to the Children of Israel, and — most uniquely — to hear the direct speech of Allah without any intermediary. This was a privilege granted to very few, and it elevated Musa to a rank of extraordinary honour.
Then Allah commands him: "So take what I have given you and be among the grateful." This means: O Musa, hold firmly to the revelation you have received, act upon it with sincerity and dedication, and do not let this immense blessing go to waste. And be among those who thank Allah — not merely with words, but by using these gifts in the way that pleases the Giver, by obeying His commands, and by appreciating the magnitude of what you have been given.
The command to "be among the grateful" carries a profound lesson: the greater the blessing, the greater the responsibility. Gratitude is not just a feeling; it is a way of life. It is acknowledging the favour, praising the Bestower, and using the gift for His sake.
A Da'wah Reflection for the Reader:
Dear Muslim, look at how Allah honoured His prophet Musa — He chose him, spoke to him, and entrusted him with His message. Yet even with all this, Allah commanded him to be grateful. If the prophets themselves were commanded to thank Allah for His favours, how much more should we — ordinary believers — rush to thank Allah for the countless blessings He has poured upon us?
Every breath you take, every heartbeat, every moment of peace and security — these are all gifts from Allah that you did not earn. And above all, the greatest blessing is that Allah has guided you to Islam, sent you the Qur'an, and given you the opportunity to know Him and worship Him.
So ask yourself: Are you among the grateful? Do you use your health, your wealth, your time, and your knowledge in ways that please Allah? Do you thank Him with your heart by acknowledging His favours, with your tongue by praising Him, and with your limbs by obeying Him?
Let this verse inspire you to be a truly grateful servant. For Allah has promised: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you in favour" (Ibrahim 14:7). Gratitude is the key that opens the doors of more blessings — so hold fast to what Allah has given you of guidance, and be among the grateful, and you will find His favours multiplied beyond your imagination.
