Surah Nuh — Verse 3

• اعْبُدُوا (u'budu): Worship, devote yourselves exclusively to the worship of Allah alone.
• وَاتَّقُوهُ (wa-ttaqūhu): Fear Allah, be conscious of Him, and guard yourselves against His punishment by obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions.
• وَأَطِيعُونِ (wa-aṭī'ūn): And obey me (Nuh) in what I convey to you from Allah and in what I command you to do.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Allah tells us what Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) said to his people as part of his clear warning and call to guidance. Nuh's message was built upon three fundamental pillars:

First, the worship of Allah alone — that they should devote all their acts of worship, their prayers, their supplications, and their entire lives to Allah alone, without associating any partner with Him. This is the essence of Tawheed (monotheism), the very purpose for which all of creation was made.

Second, taqwa (God-consciousness) — that they should fear Allah's punishment and be mindful of Him in all their affairs. This means fulfilling His commands with sincerity and avoiding what He has forbidden. Taqwa is the shield that protects a believer from sin and leads to righteousness in this life and salvation in the Hereafter.

Third, obedience to the Prophet — that they should follow Nuh (peace be upon him) in everything he commanded them, because he did not speak from his own desire but conveyed only what was revealed to him from Allah. Obeying the Prophet is an inseparable part of obeying Allah, for Allah says: "Whoever obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah" (An-Nisa: 80).

These three principles form the complete foundation of faith. When a person worships Allah alone, remains conscious of Him in every moment, and follows the guidance of His messengers, they have grasped the firmest handhold that never breaks.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, ponder how beautiful and complete this message is! Prophet Nuh called his people to the very essence of happiness — to know their Creator, to worship Him alone, to protect themselves from His displeasure, and to follow the one who guides them to the straight path. This is the same message brought by every prophet from Adam to Muhammad (peace be upon them all).

Today, this call reaches you as well. Allah has sent His final revelation, the Qur'an, and His final Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him), to guide you to the same truth. Will you not respond to this call of love and mercy? Will you not taste the sweetness of faith by worshipping your Lord, being conscious of Him, and following His Messenger?

The doors of repentance are open, and Allah's mercy encompasses everything. Come to the path of peace and success before the appointed time arrives, for no soul knows what it will earn tomorrow. May Allah guide us all to the straight path and make us among those who hear the call and respond with sincerity and obedience.
