Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Tadhkirah (تَذْكِرَةٌ): A reminder, admonition, or lesson that awakens the heart and calls one to reflection.
  • Sabeel (سَبِيلًا): A path, way, or means — here referring to the path that leads to Allah’s pleasure and forgiveness.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse comes as a concluding admonition to the previous verses, which described the terrors and overwhelming events of the Day of Resurrection — the shaking of the earth, the mountains becoming like scattered sand, and the heavens splitting apart. Allah, the Exalted, says: "Indeed, this is a reminder" — meaning that these verses, with their warnings and awe-inspiring descriptions, are a profound lesson and a source of reflection for all of humanity. They are not mere stories or tales; rather, they are a call to awaken the conscience and to turn back to the Creator.

Then Allah says: "So whoever wills, let him take to his Lord a path." This is a gracious invitation and a door of hope opened wide for every servant. It means: whoever desires to be saved from the horrors of that Day, and whoever seeks the pleasure of Allah and His eternal reward, let him choose the path of faith, obedience, and righteousness. The path is clear — it is the path of sincere belief, performing the obligatory acts, avoiding the forbidden, and drawing closer to Allah through voluntary acts of worship and good deeds. The verse places the choice in the hands of the servant: the path is available, the way is open, and the means are within reach. It is a call to action, not to complacency.

A Call to the Reader:

Dear reader, this verse is a gentle yet powerful reminder that the door of repentance and guidance is never closed. Allah has placed before you a path that leads directly to Him — a path of light, peace, and ultimate success. You do not need to be perfect to begin; you only need to take the first step. Every prayer you offer, every good deed you perform, every sin you abandon, and every sincere turn to Allah brings you closer to Him. The choice is yours, and the reward is immense — the pleasure of Allah, the joy of Paradise, and the eternal bliss that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart can imagine. So do not delay, and do not let the whispers of despair hold you back. Take that path today, for your Lord is Most Merciful, Most Forgiving, and He loves those who turn to Him.

📜 Verse 17-20 — Al-Muzzammil

Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired?
The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled.
Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way.
Indeed, your Lord knows, [O Muhammad], that you stand [in prayer] almost two thirds of the night or half of it or a third of it, and [so do] a group of those with you. And Allah determines [the extent of] the night and the day. He has known that you [Muslims] will not be able to do it and has turned to you in forgiveness, so recite what is easy [for you] of the Qur'an. He has known that there will be among you those who are ill and others traveling throughout the land seeking [something] of the bounty of Allah and others fighting for the cause of Allah. So recite what is easy from it and establish prayer and give zakah and loan Allah a goodly loan. And whatever good you put forward for yourselves - you will find it with Allah. It is better and greater in reward. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
