Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

The sky will be split open or rent asunder.
Because of it, i.e., because of the terror and magnitude of that Day.
His promise is certain to be fulfilled and will inevitably come to pass.

Explanation of the Verse:

On that tremendous Day — the Day of Resurrection — the sky, despite its vastness, strength, and perfection, will split and crack open under the sheer horror and overwhelming awe of the event. The heavens, which stand as a magnificent sign of Allah’s power, will be torn apart, and this is but a glimpse of the terrifying reality that awaits creation.

This verse serves as a profound reminder that the coming of that Day is not a possibility or a distant myth — it is an absolute certainty. Allah, the Most High, has promised it, and His promise is never broken. Just as He created the heavens and the earth with perfect precision, He will also bring about their end with perfect justice. Nothing can prevent or delay what He has decreed.

The splitting of the sky is not merely a physical event; it is a sign of the complete transformation of the universe as we know it. Every system, every order, every law of nature that we rely upon will collapse, and a new reality will unfold — a reality where every soul will face the consequences of its deeds.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, pause for a moment and reflect: if the sky — that immense, unshakable canopy above you — will crack and split on that Day, how then can you feel secure in your own affairs? How can you busy yourself with the fleeting pleasures of this world while such a momentous event awaits?

This verse is not meant to frighten you into despair, but to awaken your heart and draw you closer to your Lord. It is an invitation to prepare — to turn back to Allah in repentance, to strengthen your faith, to perform your prayers, and to do good deeds that will weigh heavily on your scales when that Day arrives.

The promise of Allah is true, and His justice is perfect. So let this verse be a turning point in your life — a moment where you decide to live with purpose, mindful of the Hereafter, and hopeful of His mercy. For those who strive and believe, that Day will not be a day of terror, but a day of joy and eternal bliss in the gardens of Paradise.

May Allah make us among those who prepare well for that Day and who meet it with hearts full of faith and deeds full of righteousness.

📜 Verse 16-20 — Al-Muzzammil

But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure.
Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired?
The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled.
Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way.
Indeed, your Lord knows, [O Muhammad], that you stand [in prayer] almost two thirds of the night or half of it or a third of it, and [so do] a group of those with you. And Allah determines [the extent of] the night and the day. He has known that you [Muslims] will not be able to do it and has turned to you in forgiveness, so recite what is easy [for you] of the Qur'an. He has known that there will be among you those who are ill and others traveling throughout the land seeking [something] of the bounty of Allah and others fighting for the cause of Allah. So recite what is easy from it and establish prayer and give zakah and loan Allah a goodly loan. And whatever good you put forward for yourselves - you will find it with Allah. It is better and greater in reward. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
