Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Wail (وَيْلٌ): Destruction, ruin, severe punishment, or a valley in Hell. It is an expression of intense threat and warning.
  • Yawma'idhin (يَوْمَئِذٍ): On that Day — referring to the Day of Resurrection.
  • Lil Mukadhdhibin (لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ): For those who deny — i.e., those who reject the truth, the blessings of Allah, and the messages of His prophets.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse is a powerful and solemn warning that resonates throughout Surah Al-Mursalat, appearing as a recurring refrain after each example of Allah's blessings and signs. Here, Allah declares: "Destruction and ruin, on that Day, for those who deny."

The "Day" referred to is the Day of Judgment — the inevitable moment when every soul will stand before its Creator. On that day, the deniers — those who rejected Allah's countless blessings, who mocked His signs, who refused to believe in His messengers and the resurrection — will face the bitter reality of their choices.

What are these blessings they denied? The preceding verses of this surah remind us of Allah's magnificent favors: the creation of the heavens and the earth, the earth as a vast resting place with firm mountains, the sweet and fresh water we drink, the fire that provides warmth and light, and the very air we breathe. Yet, despite all these undeniable proofs of Allah's power and mercy, the deniers turned away and said, "This is mere magic" or "This is ancient fables."

On that Day, their denial will turn into utter regret. The blessings they enjoyed in this world will become witnesses against them. The punishment they mocked will become their reality. There will be no escape, no intercessor to save them, and no second chance. The word "Wail" here is not merely a description of punishment — it is a declaration of their complete loss, both in this life and the next.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on the countless blessings around you right now. The air you breathe, the water you drink, the earth beneath your feet, the sun that gives you light and warmth — all of these are gifts from your Lord, given to you out of His infinite mercy. How can anyone look at these signs and still deny their Creator? How can anyone receive such generosity and respond with ingratitude?

This verse is not just a threat — it is an invitation. It invites you to open your eyes, to see the truth, and to turn back to Allah before that Day arrives. The door of repentance is open now, but it will be closed on that Day. Do not wait until it is too late. Embrace the truth today, thank your Lord for His blessings, and live a life that pleases Him. For on that Day, the believers will find joy and peace, while the deniers will find only ruin and regret. Choose wisely, for your choice today determines your destiny tomorrow.
