Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Inṭaliqū (انطَلِقُوا): Proceed, go forth, or set out. It is a command given with severity and sternness.
- Mā kuntum bihi tukadhdhibūn (مَا كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ): That which you used to deny — referring to the punishment, the Fire, and the Day of Recompense that they mocked and rejected in the worldly life.
Explanation of the Verse:
On the Day of Judgment, when the disbelievers are brought forth for reckoning and they witness the horrors of the Hereafter, they will be addressed with a harsh, humiliating command: "Proceed to the punishment you used to deny!" This is a rebuke and a reminder of their arrogance in the world, where they laughed at the warnings of the messengers and said, "When will this promise come to pass, if you are truthful?"
Now, the truth is laid bare before their eyes. The Fire they mocked is real, its heat is real, and its torment is real. They are told to go to it — not as an invitation, but as a sentence. The command carries both scorn and justice: they denied the Fire, so now they shall taste it; they belittled the punishment, so now they shall endure it.
This verse is a stark reminder that no one can escape the reality of Allah’s promise. What was once a matter of jest and disbelief becomes an inescapable destination. The command is given with such severity that it leaves no room for argument or plea. They are driven toward the very thing they rejected, and in that moment, they will realize that their denial was nothing but self-deception.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, this verse is not merely a historical statement — it is a living reminder for every soul. The Qur’an speaks to us today as clearly as it spoke to the first generation. The Fire is real, and the path to it is paved with denial, arrogance, and turning away from the truth. But Allah, in His infinite mercy, has sent us this warning while there is still time — time to repent, time to believe, time to change our course.
Do not let your heart be hardened by the distractions of this world. The One who created you, who sustains you, and who knows your innermost thoughts, has told you the end of those who reject His signs. Yet, He has also opened the door of forgiveness for those who turn back to Him. The same tongue that will utter "Proceed to the Fire" for the deniers is the tongue of mercy for the believers: "Enter Paradise, you and your spouses, rejoicing."
So, before that Day arrives, let us hasten to the truth. Let us believe in the unseen, in the promise of Allah, and in the reality of the Hereafter. For the one who believes and does righteous deeds will never hear that harsh command — rather, they will be greeted with peace and honor. May Allah make us among those who listen to the truth and follow the best of it, and may He save us from the punishment we are warned of.
