Word Meanings:

  • Jazā'an (جَزَاءً): A recompense or requital for deeds done.
  • Wifāqan (وِفَاقًا): Matching, fitting, or corresponding exactly to something — meaning the punishment perfectly aligns with the nature and severity of the deeds committed.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse concludes the description of the punishment awaiting the disbelievers in Hellfire. After mentioning the scorching heat, boiling water, and foul pus they will drink, Allah states that all of this is a *recompense that perfectly matches* their deeds. It is not unjust or excessive; rather, it is precisely what their actions in this worldly life warrant. Just as they persisted in disbelief, arrogance, and wrongdoing, their punishment is tailored to reflect the depth of their transgression. The justice of Allah is absolute — no soul is treated unfairly, and every consequence is a direct and fitting response to what one earned through their own choices.

This serves as a profound reminder that the Hereafter is not a place of random fate, but a realm of perfect justice where every action is weighed and recompensed with exactitude. The punishment is not merely a punishment — it is a mirror reflecting the state of the heart and the deeds of the limbs.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has warned us clearly so that we may return to Him before it is too late. The promise of *wifāq* — a punishment that matches one's deeds — is also a promise of hope for the believers: for those who do good, their reward will likewise be a perfect match, multiplied by Allah's grace. So race toward goodness, seek His forgiveness, and let the awareness of His perfect justice draw you closer to His mercy. The door of repentance is open, and His compassion precedes His wrath. Do not delay — for every moment is an opportunity to turn back to the Most Merciful.
