Key Words and Phrases:
- Al-Ayah al-Kubra (الآيَةَ الْكُبْرَىٰ): The Greatest Sign — referring to the miraculous signs given to Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) by Allah, specifically the transformation of his staff into a living serpent and his hand shining white with radiance, as clear proofs of his prophethood.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, Allah tells us that Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) showed Pharaoh the greatest sign — a miraculous proof that left no room for doubt. This sign was the staff that turned into a moving serpent and the hand that glowed with a brilliant white light, both being supernatural acts that only the Creator of the universe could bring about. These were not mere tricks or illusions; they were undeniable evidences of Musa's truthfulness and his divine mission.
However, despite witnessing this overwhelming miracle with his own eyes, Pharaoh chose to reject the truth. He stubbornly denied Musa's message and disobeyed his Lord, turning away in arrogance and pride. Instead of reflecting on what he had seen, he intensified his opposition and sought to challenge Musa with his own sorcery, as mentioned in the following verses. This shows the depth of Pharaoh's tyranny and his willful blindness to the clear signs of Allah.
Reflection and Da'wah:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every seeker of truth: Allah sends His signs to guide humanity, but the choice to accept or reject them lies within the heart. The greatest miracle of all is the Qur'an itself — a living, eternal sign that challenges humanity to this very day. Just as Pharaoh saw the truth and turned away, we are reminded to open our hearts to Allah's guidance before it is too late. The signs of Allah are all around us — in the universe, in our own creation, and in His revealed words. Let us not be like Pharaoh, who let arrogance and pride veil his vision. Instead, let us be among those who see the truth, accept it with humility, and submit to their Lord, for that is the path to eternal success and peace. Allah's mercy is vast, and His door of repentance is open to all who turn back to Him sincerely.
