Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • فَكَذَّبَ (He denied): He rejected the truth and refused to accept it as coming from Allah.
  • وَعَصَىٰ (And disobeyed): He violated the command of his Lord and opposed His messenger.

Tafsir (Explanation):

After Musa (peace be upon him) presented the great sign to Pharaoh — the staff turning into a serpent and the shining white hand — Pharaoh’s response was not one of reflection or humility. Instead, he outright denied that this sign came from Allah, and he disobeyed the command of his Lord. He refused to submit to the truth that had been made crystal clear before his very eyes. His denial was not born of ignorance; it was born of arrogance and stubbornness. He saw the miracle, yet he chose to reject it, and he chose to rebel against the call of Tawheed (monotheism) that Musa brought to him.

This verse captures a profound lesson: the greatest obstacle to faith is not the absence of evidence, but the pride that refuses to bow to the truth. Pharaoh was not lacking proof — he was lacking sincerity. When a heart is filled with arrogance and love of power, even the most dazzling miracles will not move it. The verse reminds us that Allah’s signs are always sufficient, but the human heart must be willing to receive them with humility.

Reflection and Call:

Dear reader, let this be a gentle reminder for your own heart: when the truth reaches you — whether through the Qur’an, through the beauty of creation, or through the wisdom of sincere advice — do not let pride or habit stand between you and your Lord. The same Pharaoh who was given the greatest signs of his time ended in ruin, not because Allah was unjust to him, but because he closed the door of his heart. Open your heart today, and you will find that Allah’s guidance is closer to you than your own breath. Every moment of sincerity is a step toward eternal success. Do not be like those who saw the truth and turned away; be among those who, when the truth is clear, embrace it with love and submission.
